Id5 software drive smart

Trying to figure out what is causing my car issues as I’ve had both the emergency recall id5 software update AND had to install drive smart black box from Motability as one of my drivers is under 30.

both were updated / installed this week and ever since I gave the following issues :

1 it feels like the triangulation positioning software no longer works. Apple car play loses me completely even today on both the M25 and m1. This also is impacting the adaptive cruise control with completely the wrong speed limits and again losing the car position and multiple messages saying ‘ data doesn’t exist for this area ‘

2 the mileage m/kwh seems to have set back to factory ? And as prior to today’s drive it only had car park service engineer driving it thinks 80% charge is giving me 140 miles … instead of the 240 previously

You need to talk to motability about this.

Yes I’ll call them and vw today. Something is very wrong. It was tracking me in nearby fields today when in fact I was on the m6

Is this with the Drive Smart “Telematics Tab”? The little one that sticks to the windscreen and requires the Drive Smart App? Or the big one that sits somewhere in the car as a supposed to having the app?

Yes the drive smart small one. We’ve removed the young driver from the policy and direct line were really helpful so I’ve taken the black box out and disconnected it and already the car seems to actually know where we are rather than signalling I’m in a field three fields away… won’t be actually driving in it until tomorrow so I’ll report back if it’s fixed it or if it’s still an id5 software issue.

Ok. Spoke to motability and direct line who were very helpful. We removed the telematics which seemed to improve things but it was temporary. Car now back at the dealers who are replacing the aerial ( where even is that these days ??!!! It’s invisible to the eye).

I’ll report back if this fixes things. This error appeared the minute the telematics was fitted and I know could be coincidental – but motability are now aware ( and as I said direct line were very helpful).

to illustrate how bad the problem became the last drive in it showed my car over five miles away on completely different roads on both the in built sat nav and apple car play.

the only way to get a true sat nav was to disconnect the car play entirely and let the phone use it’s own transponder completely separate from the car.

On an ID.5 isn’t it in the “Shark Fin” above the back window on the roof?
I’m due to be collecting my new ŠKODA on Friday and I’ll be getting Drive Smart for the first time. It’s not the first time I’ve heard that they give false readings and wreak havoc with the car’s location and satellite based systems. Confidence Inspiring.

it is indeed a shark fin ! I’d never noticed it before 😧

let us know how you get on with the new car !! I’d not heard anyone reporting this weird anomaly before which is why I thought I’d better post.

id5 now up a running it was in VW for three days and they said it was really weird. They completely replaced the aerial and had to let it sit and ping overnight and apparently EVENTUALLY it connected back to vw and all the errors cleared. I’m lucky in that I can remove my under 30 driver ( which I have ) and therefore have put the drive smart in the bin as directed by Motability.

no idea if the error was connected to the drive smart but it was an extremely timely coincidence if not.

Oh!! Also one of the other errors was that the car thought the date was 31/03/2028 – which was fun and it wouldn’t let me set the time and date to the correct ones even on manual !! so we had lots of ‘back to the future ‘ jokes for a few days chez kjid5
