Just spoke to a local VW dealer about the above vehicles and was quoted 1 year from signing on the dotted line to delivery.

    Would you accept this?

How do motability deal with this if it becomes the short term norm.

Wow thats extensive, if the car had everything i needed personally then i would wait but cancel the order if something equally as appropriate came on with less of a wait time (obviously not ideal but what other option is there?). I think if this is to become the norm then motability are going to have to look at longer lease times or auto extensions if needed, something will have to give.

I think we already know how Motability deal with it by taking cars off the scheme and as we are told nothing about what’s going on we don’t know if its manufactures who are removing their cars from the scheme or Motability.

I’d like to see the reintroduction of the used car purchase scheme, given the current delays Moto are going to have to be much more flexible in every aspect.

Both myself and a mate have just ordered our next motability cars. I was given a 16 week build time on a VW Passat SEL estate and he was told 5 months on an ID3. Both ordered from same dealer.

If he’d said a years wait, probably would’ve ordered our backup car instead.

A number of global issues with supply chain problems and a lack of components combined with covid have resulted in the present situation and erratic delivery times seem to be the norm and will continue to affect the car industry into 2022. Motability have removed cars from the scheme as there is no availability at present and even those fortunate enough to have placed an order could find their chosen car is no longer available or they could face an extensive wait until taking delivery.  This may be the most important factor for many when considering their next car. The numbers on the scheme are gradually diminishing and the 1184 remaining overstates the actual choices available with the MINI making up almost 10% with 115 models/trims and the Focus 64. Many of the remaining cars are in the Small/Medium sector’s with small cars making up 30% and the two groups combined 50%. On the other hand there is still a reasonable choice for those “not too picky”.

I’m test driving another ID3 tomorrow.  I will ask the dealer what their lead time is.  Only 1 month ago I was told 20 wks.  So 1 year seems insane .

So had a longer hassle free test drive today.  When I got back to dealer asked the dreaded question how long. He told me 12-16 weeks which has to be bait as I was told 20 weeks 1 month ago

The ID.3 is, or should I say was, or is perhaps still on my electric shortlist, however VW told me today that I would realistically be looking at more than 6 months, as things stand. At present 27-30 weeks.

My wife ordered her VW ID3 family Pro Performance in Aug 21,  was informed (nov 21) that it was due to be built in week 49 of 2021.  Still have not heard anything on this.  So apart from an apparent build date, still waiting, and to add to the issue we were due to have our home charger installed on 01 March but that is not happening now…

Because I still have my KIA for now I still use a KIA users forum and was taken back today by them having a little moan about their Sportage’s having an 8 week delivery time though that said dealer will tell you its 12 weeks but some have had 8 weeks delivery.

Make you think what’s going on down at Wolfburg.

I ordered ID4 52Kw pure life end Sept 2021 with a Stafford dealer and originally told Feb/Mar delivery and a few weeks later build week was advised to be week 50 (2021). I had an update beginning Feb and they said that build week 50 was still showing and he thought it had been built but possibly waiting some parts. he said he would progress it 1st week Mar but was still hopeful we will see it Mar/Apl.

My Tiguan us due it’s 2nd MOT April 14th so I hope we will get it before then.

Ordered Peugeot 3008 late October, picked up early January. Had option to collect just before the end of Dec. . Apparently Peugeot were prioritising build of high spec models to detriment of lower spec cars. Thought he was blowing smoke tbh but he was correct. Now being instructed to quote 6 months minimum delivery.   Dreaded ordering as couldn’t even get test drives on my short listed cars, some models I couldn’t even sit in! Fingers crossed for everyone else.

A couple of points. The best information we have suggests a build time of between 12-18 months for the ID.3, with local dealers here suggesting the latter. Other posters who ordered electric then cancelled were told they could keep the charger without cost. This would be best verified with motability however the lack of any written contract legally would probably make any demands for payments unenforceable.

I’d be happy with that considering I ordered one in September then received a call after they had been removed from the scheme to tell me that a mistake from the dealer had occurred and the order never actually got placed.

Now we join the many motability customers who are on a extended lease. Hoping for something to appear in April!.
