Surprisingly for an old guy like me the Ioniq 6 is now top of my shortlist.
My new vehicle order date is in just one month (Dec 12th) so I’m now coming close to ‘ make your mind up time’ lol.
I’ve researched a number of cars including the Mazda CX60, Kia EV6, Ionic 5, Renault Austral e, Enyaq (humph!!!!) and also considered extending my lease on my Peugeot 3008 hybrid.
I’m interested in changing to full EV and feel that now may be my last opportunity to do so due to advancing age. The Ioniq 6 Ultimate comes complete with all the items on my ‘need and wish list’ including a heat pump, opening sunroof, full electric relaxation front seats, and an essential quality audio (Bose) etc, etc. So no expensive optional extras would be required.
I haven’t previously considered the Ioniq 6 because when I’ve seen them around they looked to low for me to get in and out of, so when I was in the Hyundai dealership for an Ioniq 5 test drive I sat in a ‘6’ just to rule it out, but to my surprise I was able to get in and out with no difficulty at all (due to the raised floor over the batteries) …. that started me thinking.
I’ve almost convinced myself that I should order this car but I thought I would ask you guys for your opinions if you have any.
Cheers.

Thanks Kezo & Ian, As I don’t use X (Twiter) I shall maybe try phoning them, just to see what their estimated time of arrival is and to see if it matches my dealers estimate of by the end of April.
I am still waiting on my housing association getting back to me after nearly six weeks about permission for the Ohme power socket to be put in. The issue is now with a very nice housing manager who said she will get back to me soon.

November 14, 2023 at 3:15 pm #243563Im still waiting for a test drive, every time im off work or finish early the bloke who has the i6 is never at bloody work. Just had a call from EH in Leeds to say it will be at the showroom tomorrow at 2.30pm and i can have an unaccompanied test drive so crossing fingers and everything else for that, third time lucky. I went Saturday but sadly he had gone home, i was almost tempted just to order it but the war office held me back lol, she has a lot more common sense than me.
If all goes well tomorrow an order is going in for the byte blue ultimate without the digital side mirrors, after he told me it was a 3 grand repair if they get walloped off.

I wouldn’t bother with the mirrors either, knowing my luck I’d end up clipping on!
What delivery time have you been told and are any colours chargeable by your dealer?
November 14, 2023 at 3:55 pm #243577On Saturday i was told only 2 premium cars existed as stock, one dark blue and one in red and both would qualify for the dealer match contribution of £750 but both had the digital side mirrors, so would have to pay the £950 for those which cancels out the extra £750 really so pointless.
Therefore it will have to be a factory order, he showed me a print out from Hyundai which had build slots listed. If ordered before the 15th of December then delivery was estimated FEB to MAR 2024 but any time after that and your looking at May to June 2024.
As far as he is concerned all the metallic colours are included, did not ask about the Matt ones as they dont interest me due to the extra up keep.

Stuart, I am not doubting you for a moment, but I am intrigued by your dealer saying that the digital mirrors are £995 as an optional extra which is true, but I do not see why it would cost £3,000 to replace if they are damaged and excluding vandalism, it is highly unlikely that both would be damaged, although not knowing you, I don’t know if you are intending using it in a Rallycross. lol.
November 14, 2023 at 5:31 pm #243602I’ve just spent some time with the local Hyundai dealership. Sat in an Ioniq 5 as a reminder then looked at the new Kona, which has front charging, so is useless for my needs as we can only reverse into the drive. Then sat in the Ioniq 6.
Because I said my priority was to see if I could get in/out and sit in comfortably, they pointed me at a nearly new Premium in red. Firstly, and somewhat surprisingly, I could get in and out including not having to excessively bend my knees to get in. Seats were comfortable enough and I’d be keen to see if the Ultimate ones would be much different. I prefer the black surrounds for the screens and actually preferred the centre console and window switches in the middle.
The boot is a great size, although rather deep but thin and the access is better than I expected. It’s a very well equipped car even at a ‘basic’ level.
All in all it’s a great car, it’ll stand out in a car park and has great range. With V2L and the 800v architecture, there’s a lot going for it.

November 14, 2023 at 5:51 pm #243607Mark, do you intend going back to test drive the Ultimate with the leather (type) seats, as I think the extra £500 for the Ultimate over the Premium is well worth it. I also, was pleasantly surprised by the size of the boot, which I need to take my folding wheelchair, I think a lot of people are a bit misled by the boot only being 401, but it as big but not deep, unlike some of the SUV’s which claim more room because they count them as base to roof.

Absolutely, test drive will happen as soon as I have the paperwork confirming eligibility. I’m looking at the Ultimate because with that difference in price why wouldn’t you?

November 14, 2023 at 6:27 pm #243615@MFillingham Other than the seat covering, I can’t see any difference over getting in/out. As John say the Ultimate is only £500 more and you 360 cameras, ventilated seats etc over the Premium. Oh and that daft parking feature that doesn’t actually park your car but, moves it backwards and forwards.

Thats why I was happy to have a ‘test seat’ in the Premium, it’s not going to be any higher/lower and I knew full well that getting a sales guy to get their driver to pull the Ultimate out from the back would take ages for no real benefit. What surprised me was how easily I got in and out, even with a sore knee.

If it was AWD or at least head all weather tyres on it would be top of my list and I believe that is whats stopping me at this point and currently the Across PHEV is just edging it at the moment 🙂
November 14, 2023 at 6:58 pm #243624Surely you just put the tyres you would prefer on? It’d still come out cheaper than the PHEV and then there’s fuel savings😁

That parking feature could be a real help if like me you need to open your door fully in order to get in and out due to spinal damage. On a couple of occasions on town car parks I’ve had to wait for the driver of the next vehicle to return to their car because they’ve parked too close to my drivers’s door.
On one memorable occasion I got my lightweight folding chair out of the boot and sat in front of the ‘offending car’ in the sunshine waiting for their return. I then explained the error of their ways when they returned approx half an hour later. If I’d had that “daft parking feature” I would have already been home and sat in my armchair by the time I was able to access my vehicle, lol.
Also at home in the drive we can park two cars with loads of space side by side, and we can park three vehicles across if we park a bit closer. So I can see a regular use for that feature. We all have different circumstances.

I can remember seeing this feature in the brochure when my Tucson was on order. At the time I got all excited, teling family and friends, it had park assist and would park my car. At the time of delivery, the sales guy explained it was not what I thought and proceeded to say, its nothing for you to worry about, as its not availble on your car, as only hybrids get it!

Yes it would save around £500ish if I put decent EV tyres on.
I know its doing my head in and I’m probably over thinking things re longer journeys 🙂

Probably? You’re over thinking everything, more so than I do. Having driven a RWD 5 series in snow on summer tyres and still kept it straight, I am still convinced that it’s more about the driver than the equipment fitted. That said, I’ve decided against going out because there was no way of getting up the hill to get home before.
You know what conditions are like around you, I credit you with the sense to work out if there will be days the “6” would be stuck and just how many days each winter. Are you thinking about selecting a car for 4 days a year despite the other being better for the other 361?
In terms of that emergency trip the “6” offers 220 miles at 70 mph at -10 degrees. In English conditions that’s more like 250 miles and you’ll still be able to put a big range in with 15 minutes Ultra Rapid charging.

Yup I can certainly handle both a car and bike, both coming from a long line of a racing family including myself!
I totally agree with everything you say, however I live up a mountain with a equally steepish road getting up. Ive got stuck on a few occasions not because of me but the the person in front, who seamingly hasn’t go a clue however that only happens when the lazy council don’t bother bringing the gritters out the night before snow or a severe frost.
The main thing on my mind is if I have to do the trip in an emergency, so to speak in these type of conditions over the Brecon Beakons. The same would be true, if I took my Beamer. However I should imagine the i6 would be hell of a lot heavier.
So yes I’m over thinking things and its driving me crazy 🙂
How are you feeling now?
November 14, 2023 at 8:39 pm #243635Driving you crazy!?
I’m doing ok, thank you. I’ve cleared all infections and am done with most of the vast amount of drugs I was taking. I’m still on blood thinners for the DVTs and have to deal with bits of disc and bone eaten away by the infection. It’s great the way they ‘forget’ to tell you about that bit🤦🏻 In the main though I’m a lot better than some have come out, I know of people who had the same infection and ended up in a wheelchair.
Give yourself a decision deadline, then stick to it. Otherwise you’ll do exactly what I do and jump from favourite to favourite and that’s without Motability adding/removing and changing APs.

November 14, 2023 at 9:01 pm #243639Kezo it is a dilemma and a gamble, whether to wait 7 weeks to see if Hyundai and MB decide to bring on the AWD in Q1, as Hyundai must be finding a big interest in the I6 at that AP and hopefully they may be tempted to expand that to include the AWD model.
If you think that the I6 RWD would meet your needs, you could always order it and if the AWD comes on at a reasonable AP in Q1, you could always change over your order.
Unfortunately as we have seen with our fellow members who fancied the BMW i4 and Skoda Enyaq, MB is a bit like an auction and it is all to easy to miss out on what you fancied.
November 14, 2023 at 9:36 pm #243643I see Macklin Motors with 12 Hyundai dealerships throughout the U.K. are offering the Ioniq 6 Ultimate for £1,999 including the £750 that MB are giving us off.
So in reality Macklin Motors are offering a further £750 off which is still very good, even though it is apparently only on stock cars.
Sorry, this message has been amended, as it was typed last night in a hurry.
November 15, 2023 at 7:28 am #243671All this talk about dealer offers on STOCK ONLY cars is making me nervous, really hope the I6 does not go down the Enyaq route and get cancelled once the stock is depleted.
Think im just panicking before my test drive and order.
@Callmejohn i think the quote for 3 grand was for each mirror not the pair lol, i know we don`t fork out for the whole repair but the thought of £100 excess each time they get damaged from jealous idiots in the car park put me off.----------------------------

Stuart are you sure that we would be covered with only the £100 excess, as it is an optional extra which we would have paid for over and above the price of the Motability car.
But either way, apart from not wanting them, I would also be terrified that they would just seem too tempting for some zoomer to break off their first ever digital wing camera.
November 15, 2023 at 9:41 am #243704I thought the point in digital wing mirrors was aerodynamics, in which case, why are they so big? When you see the size of the camera and add a few LEDs to the outside you could easily halve both the height and length.
I saw a set on (I think) a Jaguar ipace and they were pretty much 2 aero wings sticking out each side with the camera at the tip of each wing. At first glance it looked like someone had taken the mirror off, thats the size these should be not these rather large and hideous boxes.
Safe to say they’re an option I’ll pass on, thanks.
