Charge polluting cars if the M4 reduced 50mph don’t work..

would the polluting cars be fined after being picked up on traffic cams..

Seems nonsense to me, how would this affect the scheme..

Same as any other low emission zone, they would use dedicated ANPR cameras and levy a fine for the cars/trucks/vans that they deem to be dirty based on their manufacturers stated tailpipe emissions.

Shouldn’t affect the scheme at all, the most stringent emissions applied to these zones so far are Euro 6 (2015) for Diesels and Euro 4 (2006) for cars, so all scheme cars are already in the “clean” bracket.

In addition, although not mentioned, it is likely to have an exemption for the disabled – most other low emission zones do.

Yes,they would use a system like London ULEZ system, cars numberpkates would be picked up against the car and identified as a “polluter” and “fine” sent to registered owner.
it’s nothing to do with pollution, it’s to do with income generating.

There will be a upscale if cloned plates of course to get round the cost.

I am assuming, like ULEZ, Motability cars would be exempt.

I don’t agree with the speed limit but thank goodness the cameras are now issuing fines on the M4 in Newport. The driving by some was appalling. Doing 50mph I had a Artic flashing behind me. Had one illegally over take me in lane 3.

I put in a complaint to GoSafe. Got a reply with a load of woffle then 2 weeks later they were starting to issue fines.

Hhmm interesting, haven’t been to London in 20yrs, hopefully never have too, traffic just ridiculous..

Abercol lots of people use private bought cars, maybe can’t afford to give up the expense of the scheme, however how things are changing so might their choice..

              possibly see lots joining, maybe..

              all this change ?

Private car owning disabled can claim exemption on their car for every low emission scheme so far, ULEZ included (but London only until 2027 – Mad Ken needs yer cash!). So, yes, some very old vehicles or those not in the disabled tax class would have to pay.  No need to rejoin Motability.

Abercol, an update yesterday recieved a text from my Daughter can I pick her and friends up from Bristol airport..

Driving through signs and info of how to pay online for the above subject..?

I stand corrected and now realise these scheme‘s are in place, up and running in cities around the UK..

The first time I’ve heard and now even witnessed it..

I’m  truly shocked, shame they’re not looking into the badly polluted river running through..

Thanks for the heads up of modern day living into modern day City living..?

The M4 Port Talbot has been 50mph for as long as Ive lived in Wales for air quality reasons, with a single Gatso on either side of the motorway, then four average speed cameras were installed late 2014 and  along the whole stretch in about 2019.

To date I’m not aware of any payments for heavy polluting vehicles, however its more of a dual carrige way than a motorway.

CF21LEE, I had this problem last night, driving the same part, 50mph average speed cams now live.

Van driving simply way to close for conditions, so moved out to the right clear lane for him to undertake, rather than over take, how strange..

It’s very boring driving that stretch kezo, that long straight where you can see the frustration on road users faces, then look at the pollution pouring out of the works running along slide the road..
