August 7, 2021 at 11:05 am #160854Yes it’s a very good picture as you would expect from a QLED 4K TV.
I have no idea about freeview Mike as i don’t use that as I have Sky Q Box

I use Amazon fire stick 4k to watch freeview/freeview play and you should be able to do this if your tv has an hdmi port. There is a lot of conflicting advice out there though so I would advise you to make sure you can get a refund on whatever you decide to purchase as it’s a bit of a minefield trying to find what works on your particular tv.
August 7, 2021 at 3:21 pm #160864Keep you old TV Menorca Mike and just buy a Firestick, then install Freeview on the Firestick if you need to. As long as you have a WiFi signal near the TV, it will work and give you all the Smart TV features. I’ve a spare Firestick plugged into a 12 year old Toshiba TV, works just fine and another in our newer Panasonic TV for Amazon and Netflix, iPlayer, etc..
August 7, 2021 at 4:25 pm #160865My router is 10 feet from the tv have good plusnet WiFi is the fire stick easy to set up ? Thankyou for the reply my old tv is a lovely picture I have freeview HD just want YouTube etc
August 7, 2021 at 4:50 pm #160868Mike, you need an HDMI input on your TV to plug it into and a 13A socket for the power. Plug it in, press the Home button on the Firestick remote and it will ask you for WiFi settings. As far as I recall, that’s it
August 7, 2021 at 5:19 pm #160876Our telly is a Sony Bravia about 5/6 years old. Don’t believe it is a “Smart” TV as had to get a Google Chromecast plugged into it before we could send wirelessly from computer. Was the only way to get all the All-4 programming. Understand that more modern models will receive data directly without need for Chromecast or Firestick. TBH, the whole range of what it is possible for TVs to do and what their makers allow you to do is utterly brain-boggling.
August 7, 2021 at 6:06 pm #160883Even Smart TVs age very quickly. Our Panasonic has various apps like iPlayer and Netflix, but they don’t get updated so if they work at all they are very slow to load. I’ve used a Firesticks for years and treated our TVs as dumb!
August 7, 2021 at 7:24 pm #16088977 inch OLED earlier this year, fantastic TV.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.August 8, 2021 at 6:42 am #160900I bet that’s an incredible picture Brydo pity OLED so expensive
August 8, 2021 at 8:22 am #160906I find the trouble with all the online, digital stuff stems from the fact that suppliers thereof will do everything possible to stop you using another system as well as their own. Amazon and Google, for example, are really not friends. If you have an Amazon tablet, you cannot use any Google bits on it. My Sony telly will link to Amazon OK, but I have to buy Google bits to make it talk to my computer. Can’t get Spotify on the tablet etc., etc. Very much like EV charging stations where you have to spend hundreds of pounds to get all the different appery and tw@phones simply to buy electricity.

Mike it’s a fantastic tv, very expensive yes but because of the wife’s health problems we do very little other than watch tv so it was worth the expense.
August 8, 2021 at 10:56 am #160924Tharg, you can sideload Android apps on your Amazon tablet including the Play Store, it’s just that Amazon would rather keep you, having subsidised the purchase price.
August 8, 2021 at 11:06 am #160928Thanks, Wigwam. Must admit to shocking digital ignorance in that “sideload” eludes me completely. Didn’t know Amazon subsidised the price. Thought it was a bit expensive for what it does. Only use it for reading Kindle-type books and playing Amazon music. If I want Spotify, I connect my laptop. The latter gives a much better reproduction anyway.

August 8, 2021 at 7:01 pm #160998@ajn yes roughly. it is a 2020 model ajn. Entry level for QLED 4K. Still a cracking TV. Higher levels are into silly money.

Thanks Joss for the info and reply, we usually go Samsung, as someone said the apps seem to stop updates..
Could be time for a new one here, but at the moment we’re not watching it often enough to justify the spend..
This looks great though..
August 9, 2021 at 9:01 am #161058Think cheapest OLED is £900
August 9, 2021 at 9:21 am #161060One thing very annoying about my telly is that while it has a most comprehensive range of sound settings, it refuses to assign them to Sky broadcasts. Sky’s sound quality is so bad that I have to have subtitles on all the time or any dialogue gets lost in “background” music and sound FX.
August 9, 2021 at 9:27 am #161062That must be the case with my daughter’s Sony TV, Tharg. They have a Sony sound bar and use Sky but I’ve found the sound quality poor. She doesn’t seem to notice so I don’t say anything. I have an AV amp setup and decent speakers so I don’t much care what sound the TV produces but I don’t use Sky…
