I have a Motability car for my mother in law but I also have bought a second car for myself to get to work as I’m not allowed to use Motability car to go work but I’m struggling to insure my own car because of lack of no claims on Motability?????

you can ask rsam for a letter that states how many claim free years you have driven a motability car most insurers will accept this as no claims

Trust me the period driving as a named driver of a mobility vehicle will prove to be of no financial advantage when considered by the few lip service companies who offer to accept mobility named driver N.C

Shop around you will always beat their quotes.

If you have NCB of your own then after 3yrs of driving solely as a named driver for someone you will lose your NCB and have to start from scratch.

If you are the main care giver and your income is advantageous to the Motability user then you are allowed use the vehicle to and from work. You could also ask Motability insurance for a quote.

JS makes a valid point. If your mother would suffer financially without your support, then your use of her car as a named driver for journeys to and from work would come into the category of ‘use that benefits the Motability leasee’. If you’re unsure, check with the Motability customer services number on 0300 456 4566. Explain your dilemma, and the financial contribution you make to support your mother. (if this is the case of course)
