Hi,
Just wondering if anybody knows who pays to have the home charger fitted.
I see that some bmw dealers are offering a free home charger or a £750 credit charge card to customers but not to Motability customers.
Obviously, if Motability finance the home charger anyway, then bmw are not out of pocket if they still offer the credit charge card to Motability customers, which they offer to regular customers

The free home charger or £750 credit is for retail sales only
The free charger is paid by motability for notability customers only (its only done once)
just 2 different types of promotions

Hi Tam,
the question was why, as it doesn’t cost bmw any more for motability customers to receive the same offer, should motability customers not be eligible for the bmw credit charge card.
As you will see from a post on the motability forum, this member has received the £750 credit charge card from the dealer.
Bear in mind that the fitting of a home charger does not cost bmw , as it is covered by motability;

It does not really matter why, its just up to them, many manufactures will run campaigns targeting different types of customers, Retail sales provide the largest profits, as motability and other fleet schemes will have less profit per vehicle, that’s “why” I suspect its limited to retail sales
March 1, 2024 at 9:48 pm #259974How do they have less profit? I see on the receipt that motability pay full price which is likely more than many retail buyers.

Motability pay heavily discounted prices for the vehicles.
what you see in the dealership is not what motability pays.
March 2, 2024 at 9:38 am #259986Strange, what I saw in the dealership was a receipt?!

Not strange at all, I’ve explained what you see in the dealership is not what motability pay.
some people will be given a sales order or a new vehicle invoice, but that’s just an internal document
March 2, 2024 at 11:05 am #260001The BMW Edrive 35 Sport has a retail price of £50,000. Latest data suggests it will hold ont0 47% to 60% of its original prices after 3 years. Meaning it would be worth £30,000 if held onto 60%
As a scheme customer AP plus sacrified benifits amount to £16,575 over 3yrs. If after 3 yrs Motabilty sold it for £30,000, (which is unlikely as most go to auction) they would have lost around £4,500, which doesn’t allign with the millions of pounds they are in profit each year and the CEO certainly wouldn’t be receiving the pay packet he does!!
Dealer’s offer more of an admin role to Motabilty and its customers and get paid a small amount (arond £400) for ordering a vehicle on behalf of Motability, along with other small amounts for servicing (ontop of sevice cost), checking vehicle at end of lease for GCB eligability.
This is a couple of years old but, still very relevant on how Motability works.

March 2, 2024 at 3:15 pm #260020Hi,
as per my original post;
Hi,….. I see that some bmw dealers are offering a free home charger or a £750 credit charge card to customers but not to Motability customers…..
Obviously from bmw’s perspective, of course they wish to make as much profit as they can.
I think some people may question their integrity/ethics as to make this offer to customers but not to motability /disabled customers. 🙂
From a perhaps pedantic perspective, bmw could take the stance that you are a motabilty customer but my Vehicle Order refers to me as the Customer and motability as the finance company. All paperwork and emails from bmw refer to me as a bmw customer.
According to the Cambridge dictionary; ‘retail is the activity of selling goods to the public’. One could argue also, that as ‘options’ are purchased directly from the dealer, then you are a bmw retail customer and should be eligible for their offer. 🙂
March 2, 2024 at 4:38 pm #260024I think some people may question their integrity/ethics as to make this offer to customers but not to motability /disabled customers.
There is nothing stopping you as a disabled person, entering into a BMW dealership and buying a new car directly from them and be eligable for a free Pod Point charger. There is no question on their integrity or ethics, as the option is open to you as a paying customer regarless of any disability!
Should my son or daughter question Motability’s ethics, just because they aren’t eligable for a free Ohme charger as Motability customer are!
Why haven’t you taken Motability’s offer of a free Ohme charger & standard install?
March 2, 2024 at 5:53 pm #260028Not really much point in discussing it.
If Papi wants £750 from BMW, they should just go right ahead and claim it.
Good luck ordering a Motability BMW and enjoy the dosh…??
March 2, 2024 at 9:25 pm #260052Hi Kezo,
‘Should my son or daughter question Motability’s ethics, just because they aren’t eligable for a free Ohme charger as Motability customer are! ‘
With respect, perhaps a more accurate analogy relative to this scenario would be;
If your son or daughter were a motability customer …..but were told they couldn’t have a free charger fitted because they were also , say …an Ovo customer.
Obviuosly bmw make considerably less profit on motability business and perhaps cannot justify offering the credit charge card deal to motability customers.
If bmw’s promotion/ advert was ‘ order a new electric bmw and customers receive a £750 credit charge card…..except motabilty members ‘
Which is the reality. I wonder how the public would respond.
Interesting point; With price discrimination, a seller charges customers a different fee for the same product or service.
March 2, 2024 at 10:09 pm #260055Why not email BMW UK, asking for a detailed explanation on why Motability customer aren’t included in the offer/s?
What are you trying to gain over Motability/Ohme charger?
Do you have Solar and the reason you want BMW’s offer of a Pod Point charger or
You want BMW’s offer of £750 charger credit and a Ohme charger from Motability?
March 5, 2024 at 11:55 am #260235Hi Kezo,
It appears you’re approaching this discussion from the ‘something for nothing / entitlement culture’.
If you read my post carefully you may understand that this discussion is regarding the advertising /sales promotion aspect and bmw’s position;
Motabilty provide the homecharger offer free to any of its members and finance it, regardless of the dealer. It is separate to any other promotions the car dealers may offer.
Many dealers will have their own promotions again not tied to motability and finance / operate those independently of motability.
Bmw have advertised ( independent of motability ) to all their customers purchasing an electric bmw, a credit charge card to the value of £750 etc. Now, apparently some bmw dealers say the offer is not available to motability members.
As I previously pointed out, this is perhaps what is referred to as price discrimination;
‘With price discrimination, a seller charges customers a different fee for the same product or service.’ https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/price_discrimination.asp
N.B. Recently some motabilty members / bmw customers have posted that some bmw dealers have indeed honoured their offer;
Eg. I picked my BMW I4 Today and I received the BMW card free subscription with bp pulse and Ionity 12 month offer & the £750 credit for public as a substitute as i could not get the home charge installed. Hope this helps.?
I suppose you could say again ‘don’t believe everything you hear’

Hi papillon
When this was posted, the poster had only been registered on the forum for a matter of a couple of hours and has since become deregistered not long after posting. I forget the name it was posted under but, its now showing as amonymous.
As an administrator on another forum, I regularly check what I would considor an out of the ordinary post and how long they have been registered on the forum. I would normally then check theirIP address but I haven’t got that ability on here.
There have been a few posts recently that seem not to fit, so I guess you could say don’t believe everything your hear lol.
