Even before Covid we struggled to see a GP at our local surgery, over the last few years things slowly got worse. Up until the last few days online on the odd occasion we were able to see a GP, now online we can only see a paramedic, no GP appointments ?
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

We have to fill in a form online. After that a triage person will decide whether it goes to a doctor, goes to the appointments team to make an appointment with an urgency period or whether it can be dealt with by admin. In reality you can request something and get a phone call saying they’ve been asked to make an appointment in 3-5 weeks.

November 14, 2025 at 5:30 pm #317536Its definately changed since covid, but I can normally get to see a GP the same day, but rarely with my own GP if thats a thing anymore, so theres no consistency anymore.
November 14, 2025 at 5:33 pm #317537At our practise you also have to fill out form, either on line or at reception. You are then triaged by a GP who will ring you back, at some point in the same day, dependent on urgency.
You can no longer book a GP appointment directly, Save for advanched booking for weeks/months ahead. If you can wait. Ie non urgent.
This not the practise but imposed government policy to cut out the made 08:00am phone scramble.

November 15, 2025 at 12:10 am #317545ive developed an isse with my right ankle i rang tuesday afternoon they rang back with a physio appointment for 9 am yesterday but hes said its not muscular etc its medical so he refferred me to a doctor, today got an appointment for 5th december. on the surface quite efficient it would seem but i told them it wasnt a physio thing at the time but they dont listen to you. i suspect its to do with circulation, cold feet all the time intermittent swelling and pain. they would save time andd appointments if they properley listened to people.
November 15, 2025 at 9:10 pm #317565We fill out an online form, a GP reviews it, last three times I’ve had two appointments same day and one with the practice nurse 3 days later. I once filled out the form around 1pm and got in at 4pm. I much prefer this to the 8am phone scramble. The old system you would be ringing at 7.59am and when the call got through you were 20th in the queue.

Well after struggling to get an appointment with our local GP surgery the wife ended up in A&E and was admitted, this new Government imposed policy just isn’t working.
