Freesat Tv Not Picking Up Freesat EPG

I have a Samsung TV which is around 6 years old. It has Freesat and Feeview, you can plug a hard drive into it and record programs.

When I plug the Sky satellite cable into the f connector socket, it picks up the satellite channels but they are all over the place, there’s no Freesat program guide.

If I use the aerial in the RF socket it picks up the freeview channels and they are neatly arranged in the Freeview EPG.

I’m picking up the correct satellite for Freesat Astra 28.2E. Anyone got any ideas why I can’t get the Freesat EPG?

Funnily enough my Android Sony had a similar problem.

The only cure was a manual update patch from Sony and a factory reset. What a pain!

VW ID3 Max is my DD

I’ve not used it yet, I just plugged my satellite cable into the TV to see what happened. I checked all the recordings on my Sky Q box and almost all were terrestrial channels, so Sky’s defo going. I’m either gonna use feeeview and stream or get a recordable box.

Sky Q uses a wideband LNB, which is not compatible with Sky + HD and Freesat.

Easy enough change over cheaply yourself as long as you don’t knock dish out of alignment, so gentle approach is best.

I’ve read the wide LNB on Sky Q will work with freesat. The tv is picking up all the channels, there’s just no program guide, just channel numbers 1 to 999.

Wideband is only capable of being used in the newer generations of Freesat 4k boxes only, as they have wideband tuners, as far as I’m concerned, your Samsung TV won’t have a 4k Freesat wideband tuner 😉

Yep, it’s 6 years old, that probably explains it. I’ll have to buy a recordable box.

Cheers Kezo, It’s not worth changing LNB considering the age of the TV. I think I’m going to buy a 1TB box. I’ll see if Freesat have any Black Friday deals. 👍

We are looking at doing the same. We are with Virgin (mainly basic channels) and will save a fortune over 2yrs.

The benifit of a dedicated box is it recording will be more seamless than using a hardrive!

Let me know if you see any deals going 🙂

Freesat offer a 14 day trial if you buy direct from them. They have an eBay store where they sell off the boxes that get returned, but the savings aren’t that great, £219 as opposed to £259 for a new one.

Humax use to make the Aura 4k box for Freesat, but they aren’t anymore other than switching to Freeview and making the Aura Freeview box🤔

Aris now have the contract for making Freesat 4k boxes. Here’s the thing. there are no 4k channels on Freesat and only from streamed content, you can’t record.

There are other Humax boxes and boxes from other brands that allow you record but, are mainly HD and would require a LNB change. Given you Samsung isn’t 4k it might be something to consider, unless your thinking of upgrading your TV anytime in the near future. On the otherhand £250 isn’t alot compared to a Sky or Virgin subscription.

                              Something to think about 🙂

My birthday is coming so I may request a satellite box. 😉

Just been reading the reviews and it’s full of people saying best decision ever to ditch sky, not many channels (excluding sport and movies) that are not on Freesat. ’ll let you know what I think of it.

I’ve taken the plunge and bought a 1TB Freesat recordable box. It works very similar to the Sky Q box but navigating around channels and features is not as fast or smooth. The program guide could do with a bit of work. The recording feature is very good, as good if not better than Sky, when you go into your recorded items it shows thumbnails of your recordings. The box also has a reminder feature, something Sky removed on the Q box.

Freesat offer 30 day trial some I’m going to see how I get on with it. I think I’m missing the extra channels you get with the basic Sky package, but I have to ask myself, are these channels worth around £20 a month.

Its a shame Freesat moved away from Humax. A company named Arris now makes them.

Humax make the Auro Freeview recordable box but, I wanted to stay away from freeview as I live in a Freeview lite area and don’t get all channels including some HD.

I am still thinking of giving the Freesat box and just keeping Virgin internet or gettin it in my wifes name as the contract runs out in January. I see Sky are pushing Sky stream from £26 rather than Q. With stream you don’t exactly get to record but, have a favourites list which works a bit like carch up.

Let me know how your getting on next week please 🙂

Kezo, I had a chat with Sky when I was cancelling. They were very heavily pushing stream, I told them I like to record and they mentioned how you can save programs in a list like recordings but then stream them from the relevant player. Sounds good until your interweb is down, the program is pulled from the player, or the program isn’t yet on the player, which happens often. I’m liking the Freesat box, but I do miss the extra channels you get with Sky.
