My 1st lease is coming to an end. When I joined I was assessed and my vehicle was designed to fit my needs. It’s a WAV. I don’t like it as it’s so big. I changed my electric wheelchair to a lighter foldable one so thought I’d go for a smaller car with a hoist in the boot. A Ford Kuga seemed best suited and I could afford the down payment. As well as a hoist I currently have hand controls which would need to be fitted in the new car. It’s taken me weeks to get an appointment with the local dealer. We arrive at the appointment yesterday and he goes to start the application and gets an error message before he put in any details. Something about restrictions to ordering. So that was that, no car ordered and apparently we’ll have to go back when it’s sorted. My lease finishes in a month. Does anyone have any advice as I’m finding this really difficult to navigate and I’m usually quite good at sorting stuff like this out!

I don’t think one can order a new vehicle before the renewal window is open.
Also as you are on the old contract and have significant adaptations, you should be able to extend your contract for up to two years (five in total), unless you are settled you want another vehicle.

It could be the manufacturer has put restrictions on that particular trim, due to long delays, the dealership group has placed on that partivular model or the computer link has a problem etc etc.
Are there any other Ford dealers within eady reach of you, you could visit and try and place an order. You can then revert back to your local dealer for servicing etc. Are there any other cars that take your fancy?

My renewal window is 29/08/2025-29/11/2025 so I’m within it. I’m tempted to just renew as this is proving to be a lot of hassle!

the restriction came up as soon as the dealer clicked “new application”. None of my details or the car details had been entered.
The next nearest Ford dealer is at least half an hour away and I need my husband with me to order so that means I have to leave my autistic daughter with my 15 year old so is a lot more hassle.
I like the Honda CRV (but can’t afford the £7k upfront payment) and the Toyota Rav 4 (which is no longer on the scheme )
October 27, 2025 at 4:28 pm #316342I know there’s two trips rule and yet the last two vehicles on Motability I ordered over the phone and used digital signature to sign. One was with Eden and another with Marshal’s.
Maybe either of them sells Ford too, or simply ask your dealer if can email you all the documents to be digitally signed by you?

The Suziki Across (rebadged Rav4 built in same factory), but equally whopping AP!
MG HS hybrid @ajn
Hyundai/Kia Sportage/Tucson etc etc
Other than that wait and hope the locall Ford dealer can sort out the issue, if you find travelling difficult or look into @kdwolf suggestion above.

We have the Suzuki Across on the Mobility scheme it is an excellent vehicle, however we paid the upfront AP £6999 as we tow an caravan and most importantly intended to extend the lease to 5 years, unfortunately even with low mileage. I very much doubt they Mobility Operations will allow us to extend the lease the further 24 month, yes we feel a bit mislead, £6999 for a 3 year lease no chance, the scheme seems to be falling apart at the seams, if they lose the VAT exemption well that another nail in the coffin.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
October 27, 2025 at 5:37 pm #316348@especially Do you have a motability online account set up? If so what does it say about restrictions. if anything?
If you do not have a motability online account, you can set one up here https://activate.motabilityoperations.co.uk/create/pre-check?utm_source=sign-in&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=self-registration
This would be helpful for you.

Ended up looking/thinking to buy a used car and come away from the scheme.
Admittedly my fault from a bit of laziness and not inspired by cars available and large AP’s..
However after test driving/visting 5 or more different dealers, we saw the new MG hs trophy + parked up in a disabled bay..
I looked over it went away & arranged a test drive..
Then after a bit of home work, was very impressed (love at first site 😆), it had everything we needed and more.
Luckily i could also have one to pick up in 4/5 days time.
Not saying you should get one, however might be worth a look…
Also Big Dave can be a massive help with the deals he posts on here daily & roped me in a NO advanced payment after I mentioned deals he posts here for a like for like deal…
well that was a great bonus too.

yes I have an online account. My application is approved. The dealer didn’t even put any details of car/me in before he got the restriction screen. Possibly the dealer is restricted?
October 27, 2025 at 7:51 pm #316354I’ve been trying to see the dealer to order since 11 October.
I’m concerned about going for a different model as I need a 4 way hoist in the boot for my chair and I have no clue if it will fit. I tried to contact an installation specialist but as seems to be standard with all these companies is they don’t bother replying.

The 4 way Smartlifter LM, will fit in the majority of cars.
You could ring the manufacturer (Autochair) of most boot hoists seen on the scheme 0800 167 0928 or give Geoff Gossling a ring, both are helpful and will tell you which hoists will fit in your shortlist of cars. At least it would open your choice up to other manufacturers.
October 28, 2025 at 5:56 am #316362Ditto – Jeff Gosling are very helpful. I would give them a call.
Last three or four vehicles, including out of Motability scheme, I did with Chapman – I think they’re based in Southampton.
P.S. I have left foot accelerator.

I had this happen once a few years ago where the dealer was placed upon restriction and couldn’t order any cars. Turned out the Motability sales people at the dealership hadn’t completed enough Motability training and couldn’t order any cars until Motability were satisfied they were competent.
Could be the case for you too or similar?

With regards the installers I had that problem last week contacting my installer but used their public email address. If you have done the same try the email address that MB use for the installer, you can find it by doing a postcode search on the MB web site for adaption installer near you.
I got an instant reply with that one and no reply using the public one.
