      OHME CHARGER/WARRANTY EXTENSION

I wondered how extend the 3yr warranty for a further 2yrs and this was my reply from Ohme online chat

May be of use to others that wish to extend their warranties and I am not sure how much it will be but AI is saying £100

If anyone knows the actual cost of the 2yr extension that would be apppreciated

As below its best to note that you need to lookout for their contact @ as they will not extended once it expires

      {

      OHME

Yes, we do offer a 2-year extended warranty for Motability customers! This would give you up to 5 years of total coverage from your original installation date.

Here’s how it works: If you’re eligible, you’ll receive an email from us during the final month of your existing warranty with details about purchasing the extended warranty. You’ll have one month from that email to buy it – once your current warranty expires, the offer won’t be available anymore.

      Since your charger is approaching the end of its 3-year warranty, keep an eye out for that email notification. The extended warranty is only available whilst your standard warranty is still active.}

Simple answer, I don’t know other than,

Ohme chargers are currently sold with 3yrs celluar data, after that the £2 per month applies, however it’s not clear whether this charge will also be applied to customers that had their chargers fitted before this charge was introduced and have heard conflicting stories.

Given I don’t install Ohme products its not something I can find out sorry.

My question – Would Mobility leave you in the lurch if you didn’t extent and it broke,, based on BP Pulse/Easee chargers were replaced foc?

Interesting topic. What about vehicles you can synchronise directly with the energy provider? Do you still need to pay those £2 a month or as the provider controls the charging, the need in Ohme beyond delivering the electricity, becomes obsolete?

I’ve just checked mine and I paid £85 for a 2year extension which I believe is a motability deal.

What can go wrong with a charger? Kezo, what sort of faults can you expect and how much to repair?

Circuit boards faults are pretty common and on chargers that have exposed PCB’s inside the case from moisture ingress due to the majority of home chargers only having ip54 protection.

Ohme chargers are sold as sealed units and non repairable, whilst that isn’t strictly correct, it how they are sold, meaning getting replacement PCB’s isn’t that easy without sending back to manufacturer.

As one of those that had my original Eazee replaced with Ohme by MoB, hopefully the Ohme three years runs from its install date and not the original charger install date? Which should give me at least another year yet.

Apologies if I missed that, but how do you report an issue with Ohme Pro from the first place? I have plastic cover peeled off. Although I expect they will do nothing, I want it to be recorded on the system should I get an issue in the future.

I suspect if the rear plastc cover is missing, the installer upgraded the standard 5m to 8m cable on site, which Ohme would/should be aware of mate?

My one did the same, its a very thin cover, probably just a printed cover, not structural.

I just run some clear CTA on the part that had lifted, and taped it in place until the silicon set.

Not the prettiest, but its functional and sealed.

                              Some more info

REF: Extended Data plan after the 3 yr warranty expires

I am seeing conflicting info about what happens Ohme data plan after 3yrs

Based on current information, an extended 2-year warranty for an Ohme charger offered to Motability customers typically costs approximately £90.

See my post above about getting another 2yr extended warranty

As mentioned by someone above look out for the @ invite to extend ( you will have 30 days to accept an extension if it needed) otherwise you will lose this option

Whilst also remembering the end of 3yrs Ohme warranty should be taken from Charger install date and not the start of a cars lease

I am seeing conflicting info about what happens with the Ohme data plan after 3yrs

                              1)

Regarding the data plan for the Ohme charger’s 4G connection:
Cost: The 4G SIM card for data usage on the Ohme Home Pro is generally included for free for the first three years of use.
After 3 Years: Ohme has indicated that they currently have no plans to charge for the 4G data connection once the initial three years are up.
Alternative: The charger can also be connected via Wi-Fi if a 4G connection is unavailable or after the 4G guarantee period.  Smart Home Charge +4
Note: The standard Motability and Ohme installation includes a three-year warranty, so the 2-year extension is for coverage beyond that initial period.

                              And AI then said

Make of it what you will

( This is where I suspect pro/home are/maybe treated differently so best get in touch with Ohme imo )

Here are the key details regarding the Ohme data plan post-warranty:
Cost: Ohme has stated they will charge a maximum of £2 per month, though they have expressed a desire to keep this cost to a minimum.

Alternative: If you choose not to pay the subscription fee, the charger will still function as a “dumb” charger, but you will lose the smart features, such as app connectivity, over-the-air updates, and automated off-peak charging schedules.

Exceptions: Some sources suggest that Ohme may continue to offer free connectivity for users who enable “dynamic charging,” as the data is valuable to the grid, but this is not guaranteed.

Alternative for ePod: Some reports suggest that for the Ohme ePod, the data usage may remain free throughout the lifespan of the charger.  Reddit +4

The 3-year warranty covers parts and labour for faults, and after this period, you may need to pay for repairs or an extended warranty directly from Ohme

Ohme Pro / EPod chargers have 3g/4g multi network sims

Unlike other chargers, that give you a choice of connectivity (Ethernet/WiFi/Sim) Ohme chargers don’t give you a choice of connectivity and solely rely on 3g/4g eSim

SIM data costs are covered by Ohme for the warranty period or 4 years in some circumstances. Ohme reserve the right to charge you for data costs, but this will be capped. (installer blurb). One member was told by Ohme £2pm after 3 years in 2023.

In my view Ohme will find it difficult to charge for data after an initial period, when it was Ohmes choice to build cheap and put themselves at a disadvantage to other manufacturers, who includes multiple ways to connect to the internet, some of which both IO and OVO Anytime compatible and offer full solar integration rather than solar ready.

Ohme are really only relevant with IO since OVO dropped them and Octpus have just launched their own charger, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds..

It may sound daft,  but who’s the owner of the charger? If it’s MB then legally I would assume you weren’t allowed to do it,  but report it.  If it’s us, then the usual warranty question- does fixing things without manufacturer’s permission in writing void the warranty?
