When you look at the EV5 up close it feels like a full SUV, yet it’s supposed to be Sportage sized. Heralded as what the Sportage would be if it was electric it’s a great family car. When you get in one, especially if you’re used to the Sportage, it’s huge inside. It’s all the benefits an EV has over a similar sized car but in big scale. For years we’ve been told that when you get in a Leaf you can just feel the extra space over a hatch with simulate outer dimensions. The scale has always been crossover SUV versus crossover SUV, then the EV9 took us to a whole new world but there’s not many 7 seater SUVs to compare with. For the first time we now have a very popular family SUV in the Sportage and a BEV competitor from the same manufacturer built to be the same size.
So, looking at retail prices, I fully expected the EV5 to be somewhere around the high 40k area and more for the better equipped models. Imagine the surprise when I note the EV5 GT Line is £43k.
Now, we know retail prices aren’t often reflected when it comes to Motability but (and it’s a rather hopeful but) given KIA bring new models in at a high price, is it really overly optimistic to hope these will be dropped in April?

The GT line S is £47k about £7k difference compared to the entry level Air.
Its dimmensionally a little bigger than the Sportage but is huge inside, I also like the design language, but I wouldn’t shell out that kind of money on a scheme car again and the £3k gap between the Air and GT line is stupid, especially if the Air offers most comforts.
The EV3 came down considerably this quarter by over £4k. I can’t see the 5 seeing the same reduction, as it will conflict to closely to the EV3 prices, but stranger things have happened and they could go up!

February 14, 2026 at 5:34 pm #338152Crucially for some (most?), the Air trim doesn’t have electric seats with memory or an electric tailgate.
No packs or options to add these items either.

Have you been to Smart #5? I appreciate Brabus starts from £52,000 but basic models are in the low £40K’s and the vehicle is outrageously huge and comfy inside, with reclining rear seats and I think circa 600L boot space plus 100L frunk.

I was looking briefly at that after a lower number passed me the other day and looked so much bigger than expected.
Given the EV3 GT Line S is £3,300 ish then the EV5 Air could easily drop to £2,995 or thereabouts and the GT Line around £4-5k. The issue is that KIA are expecting the GT Line to be the big seller here and if that does happen, they’ll have no incentive to make it that attractive for us, however, if it struggles, then we’re a good outlet to get some on the roads.

February 14, 2026 at 9:47 pm #338158I’m not due to change until Jan 27 so will probably be ordering in October. So far another Enyaq is a possibility but not a replacement 85X, the AP is far too high.
The Enyaq SEL at £749 appears to be the obvious choice, it has a decent range (ignoring Winter!). I don’t think I’m tempted to have the Plus package with an AP of £1,999 as apart from thr Matrix Led headlights I’d like there’s nothing else in the pack that I can’t easily live without.
Another point in it’s favour is the charging flap position, my KerboCharge gully is placed to line up with it, using an 8M lead it’s not got a lot of spare in it to be able to reach flaps that aren’t on the rear drivers quarter, so my next 2 choices could be a problem!.
The Kia EV5 I hadn’t heard of until reading on here, it appears to be ideal for me given it’s height but with a starting AP of £3995 for the Air trim it’s too expensive.
One from left field looks to be the Smart #1, height of 1,636mm makes it 20mm higher than my Enyaq! The AP of £1,999 for the Premium givesMatrix Led lights, HUD, enhanced sound system and a lot of other extras at that price.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Will you fit in #1, its small at 4.2 (L) and the centre console slopes up into the dash?
February 15, 2026 at 9:44 am #338166@Kezo That’s the question!!, there’s only one Mercedes/Smart dealer near me, about 15 miles away so not too far.
When I was looking to replace the previous Ateca there were a couple of cars that on paper looked like winners but turned out to be completely unsuitable physically.
Nissan Ariya 1660mm, got in and head was hitting roof, steering wheel was hitting legs with seat fully lowered and wheel fully up!.
Toyota BZX4 1600mm, couldn’t even get into it, couldn’t get my head under the roof due to the shape of the door frame and height of the floor.
I looked at the Omoda and Jaecoo EV’s but the APs are way too high, the only other one that may be a possibility is the Toyota Urban Cruiser/Suzuki e-Vitara at 1650mm, with a (currently) £0 AP it’s certainly worth looking at but the boot is very small (236L) and range/efficiency isn’t supposed to be great so may be a problem.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
February 15, 2026 at 10:58 am #338167@Phaedra its a shame the Zeekr X hasn’t come to the UK ?(Yet). The #1, EX30 and X are all the same car built on Zeekr platform in Zeekr factory. They will howee=ver arrive later this year with the 7GT saloon and 9X, a SUV even you will beable to throw a party in😂
February 15, 2026 at 11:02 am #338168I’m watching Zeekr and the whole range looks well built and superbly equipped. There’s one that’s either a 6 or 7 seater, the 6 is captain seats in pairs, I can see that being far too good for the likes of us😉
There’s also some BYDs that will come too late for this change that look incredible, again they’re probably too good for us. Watch out for the Seal 6

How about BYD Atto 3 2026 version? My impression (providing it will be on MB and for a reasonable price) could be a good option. Although personally I would prefer the cheapest #5 due to its sheer space inside.

February 15, 2026 at 11:34 am #338171Mark Zeekr as you are probably aware are Geely and chasing the German premium brands!
7x saloon/suv
9x range extender phev c300km electric range 900v architecture 898bhp $just under £50k – one for @Phaedra😂
February 15, 2026 at 11:44 am #338172Thefact the Atto 3 Evo no comes with a 74.8kWh battery widens the market in which it will appeal
309bhp or 443bhp take your pick buying private, but only expect the weaker one on the scheme 5.5s -62mph
February 15, 2026 at 12:42 pm #338173The 7X is €53k which suggests even the base model won’t come on scheme let alone the reviewed top of the range one with power doors et al.
That bigger battery will definitely appeal so much more, I think I’m not alone in targeting 70kWh as a minimum level for a useful range. We all know trusting WLTP is ridiculous.

February 15, 2026 at 2:46 pm #338174Not so long ago cars were allowed with a MRP £50k+ but wih over 600kWh of power it will never be on the scheme. Shame really, though its perhaps a little too big?

February 15, 2026 at 9:19 pm #338175Atto 3 Comfort (current model) with an AP of £1999 is very well spec’d, Heatpump and V2L as standard, be very interesting to see if the 2026 comes onto the scheme 🙂

I expect the RWD Design will make it to the scheme, the Excellence probably not, but both trims will have similar equipment with the overall power of each model being the main difference.
The Evo will have 800v architecture with 220kW charging, along with a 1500kg towing capacity.
February 16, 2026 at 12:33 pm #338183There’s some interesting potential additions from the new cars appearing in the next 12 months.
Xpeng will introduce the G6 very soon, they may need to expand the dealership network to match Motability’s requirements. That’s priced in the 40s which seems perfectly reasonable.
Zeekr are expected end of this/early next year.
There’s the new Leaf due next month which is almost guaranteed to join the scheme, although probably at the quarter point.
Then there’s new versions like the BYD, which could expand our options.
Id still prefer the EV5 at a much better AP though.

I’d go with an
EV6EV5 GT Line S if they were available, and at some decent AP, in a heartbeat.I’ve ruled out the EV3 as my daughter wasn’t comfortable with the space. That was the only thing against it.
So it’s the Enyaq, unless things change in Q2. My lease doesn’t end till 10th of April. So I get 9 days in Q2 to decide if there’s anything worth changing too.

If the GT Line S has been on the scheme it’s always been £6k+ which was just after my Namsan Edition HI5 was on at £3500.
I might have a look at the EV5 air and see just how much is missing and whether we could live with it for 3 years.

Sorry, I actually meant the EV5 and not the EV6. Sorry for the typo and misunderstanding.

Yeh, but at £7k. An Enyaq Sportline (Maxx) gives close, but £1k cheaper.

For example it misses out on electric seats, lumbar support (but think seats are ok) and electric tailgate.
Niceties, no out are warmers for back passenger (neither here there as cloth seats), no arse coolers (don’t work as well as on leather), no blind view camera, no automatic door handle pop outs (get banned soon anyway), no smart entry / stop start and no 360 camera or 256 colour ambient lighting…
Good news the headlining isn’t black and smaller wheels mmore comfortable ride and better economy.
