Bit of a back story first. I have a mk1 MG ZS and reversing out of parking spots can be a nightmare. Not because of other cars but people. Disabled spaces are typically nearer the door, so it’s quite common for people to walk behind the cars without checking if they’re wanting to move. Electric and some hybrids have the added problem of being silent until moving, so no engine noise means nobody checks if reversing lights are on.
So, what cars do we know about that have some audible warning when reverse is selected?
I have heard the Hyundais, so could I also assume KIAs?

Well if they can’t see the reverse lights, its time to give up!
November 19, 2023 at 6:56 pm #247743Reverse into the parking space might be an option
November 19, 2023 at 7:25 pm #247752@kezo if I give up I’d be stuck indoors avoiding the locals.
@Dobbo I do now reverse in to some spaces but others are located in such a position reversing in is just asking for an idiot to come hurtling around a corner into you.I'm Autistic, if I say something you find offensive, please let me know, I can guarantee it was unintentional.

November 19, 2023 at 8:09 pm #247762As from July 2019 – Sound generators will produce a specified level of noise when they are reversing or running below 20 km/h (about 12mph). The sound generated will be similar to that made by a conventional engine and can be temporarily deactivated by the driver if judged necessary.
It does not specifically suggest either way, that it includes stationary vehicles whether in a forward or reverse gear. However Hyundai/Kia cars like there bing and bongs, so as you suggest, will emit an audible sound when stationary in reverse.
Not much help really!
November 19, 2023 at 10:25 pm #247787My 2021 Kia Soul has a loud reversing bong, thankfully it can be switched off as I reverse into my drive. If I am in a busy car park I leave it on.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

A neighbour had one of the original Neros and that was very close to a reversing bus bleeping away as it reversed into his drive, I guess he either couldn’t or wouldn’t switch it off at home.

You neighbours Tesla will make a constant hum/whine, which gets louder the quicker they reverse.
November 20, 2023 at 10:11 am #248661I’ve not heard it Kezo I’ve never really noticed

They all emit the same dB, it just some sound like a UFO, whild’t others sound like a bin wagon. Why they couldn’t make them sound like a normal car, preferably a V8 is beyond me. Thankfully they can be turned off!
Plenty of vids online of owners showing the sound/s
November 22, 2023 at 8:23 am #249329My Qashqai ePower is silent on startup, ( in fact most of the time locally) but to compensate it has a quite loud ‘ bonging’ outside and beeping inside when reversing.
November 22, 2023 at 9:49 am #249343It amazes me how people walk behind parked cars especially in supermarket car parks when there are perfectly good walkways provided.
I do wonder what’s happened to the Darwin Principle :😀

Honestly never had this problem specifically with my ZS.
Or put it this way I’ve had it about the same with people walking behind me as with an ICE vehicle. I don’t even think it’s a noise thing I think people just don’t care and expect the car to stop.
Had it a lot since driving this horrid DS3
November 23, 2023 at 12:25 pm #249684Yes, a lot is the stupidity/lack of care of these pedestrians but it would be nicer if you could settle with a warning before moving otherwise you’re either sitting waiting or backing out regardless of who’s behind.
Personally, I’m not inclined to do what I want at the risk of others, even if those others don’t prioritise their own safety.

The Darwin Award definitely goes to the driver that hits a pedestrian in a car park.
It is up to the driver to be aware of their surroundings.

For all the smart technology in EV’s. I wish one of the designers would add the Vulcan take-off HOWL into the reversing warnings and not some ridiculous beep.
That would grab peoples attention.

You could guarantee they’d scrimp on the speaker and it’d sound pathetic in comparison.
