Looking at the Kia EV3, I need hand adaptions.

Just wondering if anyone has had this done, as I have been told that some electric cars cannot be fitted with hand controls due to the gear lever being sited on the steering column.

      Thanks

Who told you that? It is a bit worrying.

I think some new cars have a foot ‘hand’ brake? Is that right??

I would get yourself to a local adaptation company and check out / test drive with the various adaptations.

I have had a Skoda Kodiaq Mk2 PHEV since February this year. That has a gear lever mounted on the steering column (I think more and more models are doing this).

I need hand controls, but prefer the electronic as opposed to mechanical throttle. The only manufacturer that could provide this was Veigel, and even then they had to collect the car from my dealer in Somerset and take it to their workshop in Aylesbury to fit it. I was told it something to do with the electronic throttle setup being so new(?). There was never any mention of the gear lever position being a problem.

Very happy with the control. I have an indicator switch on the control (which is self cancelling – never had that before on a hand control) and even a headlight flash button – very useful.

I’ve seen the Ioniq 5 & 6 with mechanical hand controls and they have the drive selector on the steering column

I had a Mercedes B Class with the drive selector on the steering column and had no problems with having a hand control fitted. Mind you I had to be a bit creative using the wipers as that was on the same side as the hand control!
