Might the reclassification of double cab pick-ups to passenger cars from April 2025 make them (at least technically) more likely to become available on the scheme? From previous posts it seems that there’re quite a few that would like it to be the case.

As long as they can be VAT exempted, which I assume they can, then I guess there’s nothing stopping them being considered. However, my hunch as to why they haven’t been included to date (and most likely won’t be in the future) is probably more to do with the chances of such vehicles being abused (i.e. used for unauthorised reasons) being much higher than it would be for other vehicle types. I suspect that Motability are concerned about the PR damage that would occur if a builder, or similar, was photographed loading up his “free Motability truck”!

Given there’s a lot of the press already stirring the proverbial brown stuff over disability benefits, one story about a so called disabled claimant working and using a government supplied vehicle in the process and it’ll be viral for weeks.  Every associated news body will rewrite the same nonsense until the daily mail crowd are baying for blood.
