I’ve noticed we have more posts relating to electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures and was wondering if there was enough interest to set up a permanent sticky.

There is a fair amount of money to be saved charging from home and getting the correct tariff could save more.

I don’t really have much expertise in the topic but I’ve noticed there are those who’ve been using a number of tariffs and actually change tarrif between summer and winter so there must be money to be saved for members to go to the bother.

I’m awaiting delivery of my 1st EV, was going to join octopus but for customers signing up for a new EV tariff, I believe EDF has the best rates now for a 12month fix. They are 6.99p overnight rate and are giving you 7 hours cheap rate from 23:00-06:00, this compares to 8p overnight and only 6hrs cheap 23:30-05:30 with Octopus. My peak rate is 29.45p with EDF compared to 33.15p with Octopus. If you then add the smart charging bolt on, you’ll get and extra £5 per month discount (£60) off your bill, this then gives you the extra slots during the day 6.99p to charge car and for full house when cheap grid energy available, there also isn’t any indication that they are going limit charging to a 6hr cheap rate maximum like Octupus either. They are also giving an automatic £50 credit for anyone signing up to this Go Electric 12m deal before 24th May, I believe if you use a referral code you get another £50 credit for that too, so a £100 credit is a big difference.

If this appeals to anyone then referral below will get the £50 credit onto your bill, this part works for any EDF tariff, the other £50 is specifically for the Go Electric 12m tariff.

I’ve ordered my first EV so am going through the processes of getting a box fitted. I know i need a non-standard installation and have paid the extra as it was affordable for me however I’ve just had an email from UK power Networks advising they need to check whether the supply needs increasing. Hopefully it doesn’t but if it does is there anyone on here who’s had that done and if so how costly is it likely to be?

I just switched to EDF from IOG today, although I was on the variable. When I joined Octopus, it took 2 days for them to get my reading. It just doesn’t pay to be loyal.

The fixed rates were high back in February. On the 1st of April, the government’s reduction in prices dropped the rates to 5.2p and around 26p.

Now on the 1st of May, they are putting it back up to 6.9p and 28.5p. Virtually back where it was before. So the EDF deal was a good one, as you get an extra hour plus paid to smart charge. Which I might not, I might just go back to turning dynamic charging off and using the car to schedule. So easy. Especially now, Ohme makes you add your SOC after plugging in the car every time. Also, they’ll roll out the 6 hr limit at the cheap rate soon. So what is the actual point of smart charging?

Did look at the EDF bolt-on, and ohme chargers are not currently compatible. So you can only opt in if your car is compatible. My ex30 isn’t, HAPPY DAYS…
