The passenger door will only open about 50 cm so it’s bent the metal at the bottom no paint has been touched how much do I have to pay to Motability I’m told it’s an insurance job thankyou for your help

        Oh Dear

        Sorry to hear that

        That’s unfortunate Mike

        I understand that

The standard excess is £250 (increased from £100). If you only need a windscreen replacement, the excess is £100

I didn’t know it was raised. Is it from 1 July or already in force?

Maybe only £100 depending on when started your lease

The exact situations when your excess goes up or changes include:
New Lease Applications: The increased excess only applies if you placed a new vehicle order on or after October 1, 2025.
Existing Leases: If you signed your lease agreement before October 2025, your excess will remain locked at your original rate (usually £100) for the remainder of that agreement’s term.

£250 is quite an increase, I only paid £100 in November, when my empty person hoist swung into my back passenger door during a gust of wind, leaving a 50p size, dent on the edge of my back passenger door.

These things happen Mike, don’t beat yourself up.

Yes, it will be an insurance job. As the passenger door doesn’t open, it could be that the hinges are damaged, the door metal is warped, or merely the damage to the cladding is preventing it from opening.

All you can do is wait until next week knowing that it will be put right.

Not one of your better “posts” Mikey…

Put it down to age, bad weather and a moments inattention.

You will get it fixed and have the luxury if a courtesy car. I predict more posts from ya when that happens..

As I’ve said they are looking at it and taking photos next Thursday morning at my Toyota dealer do they then phone motability ? I wonder how long I’ll be waiting to have it done ?

Mike, probably better to phone motability, who will give you a number for the insurance company Direct Line Mobility and they should take it from there.

Do not rely on the dealer, its not their remit. They are helpful, but this is something you have to do yourself.

You are ok, that is the main thing. Take it one step at a time, dont get overwhelmed.

Mike if notthing else, you should make contact with Direct Line, if only to make DLM aware you have had an accident and let them guide you through the correct procedure. You can explain what steps you have taken to get photo’s of the damage.

Its highly unlikely Direct Line will use a main dealer for repairs, as they have their own network of repair centres and if your dealer charges you for any work, even taking photo’s, will be your responsibility to pay.

I agree with the above comments  save yourself the headache and do things by the book!

Just to add have a read of a recent thread titled

A cautionary tale if you get a hire car from Swift

Suggest taking note following their experience

Whether its a hire/courtesy/test drive car advise to always do the same

you may want to follow their advice

                                                        remember

Lots of pics/video before getting in the hire car and highlight anything you see before driving off and same again video after you hand back and ask that its inspected before leaving

Also video your car before drop off and give it a good look around on collection
