Legally binding guidance gives councils powers to clamp down on litter louts

Councils must now follow the guidance by law, which will deter them from entering contracts with private enforcement companies that treat litter fines as a way of raising revenue. Anyone who believes they’ve been unfairly fined can refer to the guidance in court and challenge whether the penalty was proportionate.

Waste cowboys caught transporting and dealing with waste illegally will face up to five years in prison under new legislation.

        Interesting.

BTW, this should probably be in the ‘Off Topic’ part of this forum.

I’ve recently taken part in a litter pick session. I can not believe it is all litter louts, but rather the wind. Having said that, fast food companies should be liable to pay for litter pickers as much of it was their litter. And also, it might help if the council emptied the bins in a more timely fashion.

I want to believe that not all people as bad.

My weapon oh choice, this litter picker was provided free, it’s supposed to be on a borrow and take back policy, however it was agreed by the litter picking program that I was only interested in litter picking my area so was looking it to keep, rather than all the messing about taking it back..

Tbh it’s a selfish point of view, however I couldn’t be out hiking all over the place anyway, so I do my bit..👍
