Citroën unveils new ë-C4 X Electric

      Citroën has opened its order books for New ë-C4 X Electric – the brand’s first electric-only car to be launched in the UK.

      The new ë-C4 X Electric combines the lines of a fastback with the ride height, practicality, and styling of an SUV. It is available exclusively with a 100kW electric motor, paired with a 50kWh battery pack, offering up to 222 miles (WLTP combined) of range from a single charge. New ë-C4 X Electric comes as standard with a 7.4kW single-phase on-board charger and a Type 2 Mode 3 charging cable. A full charge from a 7kW wallbox will take approximately 7.5 hours. Supporting up to 100kW rapid charging, an 0-80% charge can be completed in as little as 30 minutes.

      Inside New ë-C4 X Electric, drivers and passengers benefit from the Citroën Advanced Comfort® Programme, and its all-electric powertrain. Citroën’s Advanced Comfort® Programme, includes Advanced Comfort® Seats and Advanced Comfort® Suspension to create a cocoon-like effect. At 4.6 metres long, there is generous space in the front and rear for occupants, while the extra-wide boot offers 510-litres of useful load space. There is a high and wide opening for easy access, and additional storage under the boot floor.

      New Citroën ë-C4 X Electric launches in the UK with a choice of three trim levels; ‘Sense’, ‘Shine’ and ‘Shine Plus’. Open for orders now, first customer deliveries are scheduled for spring 2023. Prices start from £31,995 OTR.

      The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.

          £31,995, not overly expensive for a car of that size, but the MG5 has a slightly bigger battery and extra 30 WLTP miles range.

            Agree 50Kw battery is on the small side.

            When are manufacturers going to build a family EV capable of 450miles, at an every joe’s price!

              Looking at my daily logs over the past few months. I would need a guaranteed 200 mile range no what what the weather or traffic conditions to even think about an EV.  And of course the same price as a ICE car!

                  What makes them worse is the un-contrasting colours, which often mimic the exterior colour and stand out like a sore thumb on the interior.

                  Are they to stow a newpaper behind or have designers gone back in time and thought lets be nostalgic and use the to pull the door shut. We will never know 🙂

                    SUV Fastback/Coupe look is all the rage at the moment. Boot will be compromised a little by the low sloped roof.

                    Despite the advertising blurb, is it actually bigger inside (front seats/rear legroom) over the normal C4 or just a longer boot??

                    220 mile WLTP = 130 miles in winter, you’d need a bigger battery to get close to your everyday 200 mile range Wigwam.

                    In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

                      Realistically, probably never if “affordable” is also a criteria.

                      Batteries have diminishing returns. At a certain point you can’t increase battery size anymore, because they become too heavy – making the car less efficient, thus not adding much range. The bigger motor required to pull the bigger battery is less efficient, = still no increased range.

                      It’s a bit (a lot) like the Rocket Equation.

                      Unless we get a significant “Bettery” instead of the current Batteries, 450 miles at an affordable price (even at a non-affordable price) isn’t happening.

                      In regards to the car: it has to be the potential to be one of the most comfortable EVs on the market, knowing citroen and their focus, so that’s something. Although as was mentioned, 50kwh is a bit on the small side – would’ve liked to see a 64kwh or even 77kwh option.

                        Exactly or should I say probably never in my lifetime. Maybe when/if we see solid state we will start to see those ranges but affordable probably not.

                        The Tesla 3 LR is said to do 215-430 real world 300 at most.

                        Then there’s the case I can travel 450 miles on a full tank of fossil fuel, be able to pull in into a gas station to an awaiting pump and be on my way in 5 minutes and is better suited to my lifestyle currently.

                        Nissans E-power range where they use the engine soley as a generator to charge the battery and not the wheels, is the way to go. Why nissan chose a 1.5 engine to do this I don’t know, but could be worked on I expect. Especially if other manufacturers adopted a similar principle.

                          I think the solution is not range but quicker charging……the market for any car driving 450miles surely is tiny? Especially when the average car journey is less than 10 miles…….

                              Quicker charging will never compete with the speed and availability of fuel pumps.  A petrol station with say 9 pumps can fuel up to 90 cars in one hour.

                                  The average supermarket petrol station has 3 or 4 lines of pumps and usually there’s 2 pumps per line so 4 vehicles can fuel per set of pumps so thats 12 or 16 cars at a time. So in most cases it can be more than 90 cars per hour.

                                  So it can make charging an ev even more time consuming than ice cars.

                                  Imagine doing a long journey say to slovakia across europe for example with two drivers in an ev, how much slower will that be over an ice. Many people do these sort journey’s once or even twice a year.

                                  Say it’s 1200 miles and the ev has a range of 200 miles at 70 mph(which most don’t and a few do) your going to have to charge 5 times on route. If your ice car doe’s 400 mile per tank that’s only 2 stops on route, also.

                                  I have seen youtube user’s driving electric cars take 2 hours to charge the car to 80% due to the wait to get on a charger, as others in the area are not working or too far off route. Sometimes they not working at all and then you have to go searching for one.

                                  Even if charging gets alot quicker, it’s going to be nowhere near that of an ice.

                                  What will trucks or coaches do, as often they have 2 drivers also.  Any longish distance will take you alot longer and let’s not forget most ev driver don’t do 70 mph they drive slower to get more range and what when you hit the autobahn and can go alot faster, again the ev will take more time as you’ll need to charge more or go slower.

                                  Point is ev’s limit the ability to drive longer distance’s in a lower amount of time and many of us do long distances regularly. That’s where an ev fails it’s got nothing to do with being naysayers who will never be happy with range and charge rates. It’s you options are reduced unless you don’t drive outside the cars range and can charge always at home.

                                          By 2035 it should be possible to charge from 10 to 80%  in under 10 minutes, possibly 5 or 6, about the same as filling up at a petrol station. I believe 18 mins is possible now on some BEV’s

                                            With regards to chargers we need quantity before speed. Whilst some EV’s can charge at rapid speeds, a lot can’t, so whilst you are sat in your latest 150 or 250 kWh car, you’ll still be in the queue on the M6 services  waiting for  a 7 year car to finish charging at 35 kWh.

                                              Bear in mind the pressure to adopt EVs in Europe is politically driven.  Most of the world is not following suit and won’t. The 2035 target is a fantasy and will be dropped or postponed as it becomes obvious it cannot be achieved.

                                                Just to add a little weight to my fairly flippant 20 sec charge post. It’s actually true and costs the price of a premium chocolate bar. I use my car like a mobile phone, drive it, recharge overnight.

                                                Not sure a petrol station is as cheap and quick. Of course the car is not available immediately whilst charging but being devil’s advocate how often do you travel +200 miles in one day, and then immediately do another 200 miles? 1 in 100 trips? Not sure this makes EVs unfit for purpose especially with fuel savings….

                                                I’ve ordered an Ev outside of the scheme that charges from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes (providing you use a 350kw charger…..not too many of them about tho).

                                                The current Ev we have has now done 57000 miles from new which I’m sure you will agree is above average miles. Despite the mileage charging is very rarely an issue.

                                                It amazes me that the range question continues to be at the forefront of non Ev drivers minds, when was this ever even a consideration, yet the ease of driving, cost to run, benefits to the environment are rarely mentioned all of which for me are much more important than the importance of a very infrequent trip to the moon via Mars.

                                                  Today actually Ian as it’s 200 miles to my brothers and then 200 back and we leaving at 10 today and will return this evening. No place to charge at the destination and then what about tommorow when I need to drive. We don’t have the ability to charge at home either. Like i say it’s great if you can but if you cannot. Well it’s not.

                                                  If it was such a good thing they would not have to force it on us all, many would adopt it not just those that can and see it as being cheaper, right now it is, but it will go up and up the cost of buying, running them and driving an ev. All that lost revenue from ice needs still to be brought in.

                                                  I ain’t anti anything I am a realist and like i say if it was so good then everyone would adopt it that’s the big issue it’s being forced upon us, yet everything done so far has made no difference at all.

                                                    That’s the sort of trip which puts an Ev at its limits of range, A 300 mile range vehicle would need a stop on the way back and if you can’t charge at home enough to find a charging point tomorrow.

                                                    A 30 minute stop at a rapid charger would do it.

                                                    Then add the cost saving, the nicer drive, the reduction in environmental damage.

                                                    I presume 400 miles in a day is not too often? What’s the mileage on your current car?

                                                      Price of EV’s is astronomical, as is demand. Government grants have been removed. I don’t feel I’m being forced into an EV, it’s more aspirational.

                                                        Prices of all cars not just EVs are high now. I wonder relatively how much they have increased vs everything else over recent years? Or have they always been high and I’m getting old
