Car driven: Chery Tigo 8 ICE in Summit trim.
First impression: big car. Inside and out. Looks good, especially in the Forest Green we’re going for. I suggest seeing the colours in person,as the website colours are much lighter than the reality and look AI generated.
The boot space is cavernous with the third row folded down. Visually, the Kodiaq looks a little larger, but not by much. Usable space is 1.01m x 80cm at the narrowest point at floor level (I took my tape measure). Easily enough to take my wife’s power chair. Oddly, the only 12v socket I could find is in the boot. The parcel shelf will fit under the floor if not in use.
The front seats are *very* comfortable and are power adjustable on the Summit trim we’re getting. Also: heated and ventilated! The cabin is light and airy in the Summit trim ‘cos of the huge opening sun roof. It was noticeably gloomier in the lower trim. The 12 speaker Sony sound system is pretty good. Wireless charging pad is ventilated – no more overheating phone.
I had wondered if the 10.5″ driver’s display might not be too small. It’s not. It’s perfect and *very* clear, as is the large HUD. The 15″ main screen is crisp and very responsive and I found everything easy to find and logically laid out. The two column stalks feel premium quality to use.
Driving:
The driving was on a potholed industrial estate, dual carriageway, and the M2. So speeds from slow to 70(ish). The throttle is responsive, but this is no performance car. You are aware this is a 1.6l engine in a big ‘D’ segment SUV. However, it accelerated from 50-70 smoothly and reasonably quickly.
This ride is softer and more comfortable than our current Renault Austral. There is some body roll when cornering, but the car always felt ‘planted’ to the road and going where I was pointing it. This is not a small car, and this is noticed on the road.
Many reviewers have commented on how the steering is very light and it is. But I had the steering input effort set to minimum on my Austral, ‘cos systemic osteoarthritis means I can’t wrestle with the car.
Things I didn’t like:
- Rear view mirror makes everything seem too far away.
- Having to adjust wing mirrors via the 15″ screen.
- No physical a/c controls.
- No four wheel steering – I’m spoiled in the Austral.
The pros far outweigh the cons for us, and we placed an order. Delivery 1st week April.

Having limitited experience with the car, what I have learned from reviews about the “things you didn’t like”
1, the rear view mirror can be replaced with a more suitable quite easily as its on a ball socket
2, The wing mirrors can be assigned to a steering wheel shortcut if needed
3, Sign of modern times unfortunately
4, you were spoiled (not as I’d fancy 4 wheel steer)

Just read it again and missed it, as I only got to number 4 of your dislikes assuming it was the end, as I did first time, then worked bottom up and found it 😂😂
