Initial thought after almost two weeks is that we love it. It has entirely solved our large wheelchair problem (Alber Erivo R10) which swings in and out without effort as the boot is cavernous and has no lip.
Several negatives raised by early YouTube reviewers have been addressed by Chery:
- The cheapo Chinese tyres have been replaced with Continentals
- The super-wide angle rear view mirror has been replaced with something much tighter
NB. The AP went up by £1,100 on 1st April, but this car is still significantly cheaper than the obvious competition like the Skoda Kodia and Peugeot 5008, which have much less equipment.
Pluses:
- Much larger than our old Austral and extremely comfortable. The ride is a little soft, but not overly so
- Huge and opening sunroof
- Higher and easy to get in and out of
- The ‘Forest Green’ metallic paint looks very different depending on lighting conditions
- The level of customisation of the big screen is amazing once you get your head around it
- This car really is ‘fully loaded’ in terms of equipment
Minuses/annoyances:
- App only works with PHEV version, although you can remote start and get A/C going with key fob on the ICE
- Thirsty, although we are getting the 37 mpg Chery claim after 500 miles of mainly motorway/dual carriageway driving
- No SatNav with ICE, but we use Apple CarPlay anyway
- No physical controls for A/C
- Driver’s display is barely customisable, especially when compared with our old car
Missed from Renault
- 55-60mpg
- ‘One-pedal’ driving
- Four wheel steering
- Android Auto
- Physical controls for A/C and seat positions
Current: Chery Tiggo 8 'Summit' ICE
