after reading a post on here about business use and dogs and insurance i went onto look at the insurance  i notice interior damage is not covered on the direct line policy   even if the damage is caused by your mobility aid or your pet or you or a friend

no more eating in the car  and defensively no more hanky panky (if i was luck enough to ever get some )

However, if the damage is caused by a mobility aid (which includes such as crutches and walking sticks) Motability themselves class it as fair wear & tear and thus do not charge you for said damage nor expect it to be repaired.

        Motability website link: https://www.motability.co.uk/get-support/faqs/what-to-do-if-my-car-is-damaged/

So there is no need to report it to the insurers.

Simply make sure the dealer to whom your car is returned notes down any such damage as being caused by a mobility aid/fair wear and tear on their returned vehicle appraisal.

Take a few photos of any such damage (and the vehicle in general) when you return it just in case of any subsequent queries but in reality there shouldn’t be any.

I can confirm what BigDave said about damage caused by ones disability or aids as I prematurely wore out the bolsterers in my VW Golf years ago that would have had to be replaced. These were wore and damaged because of the way I had to lower myself into the car.

There was a case, I think in this forum, a few years ago of someone spilling paint on a seat and they lost their GCB on return of the car, if memory serves me right.

I can confirm as of April 2024 that heavily scratched rear bumper (at least to me it looked like) didn’t cause an issue.
