I’ve noticed the free colour on quite a lot of cars seems to be blue. For some reason blue always feels like a boy colour to me 😆
Would you choose the free colour even if it’s not your favourite, or would you pay extra for a different one?
I’m curious what others usually do when deciding on colours. I might even ask the dealer if they could throw in a different colour for free. I’m fine with almost anything else, just not blue 😂

With a Motability car you can usually choose from any of the metallic paints at no extra cost. You can also choose premium paints, but you pay for the additional cost above a metallic paint.
March 12, 2026 at 11:53 pm #344808Oh that’s good to know 😅
March 13, 2026 at 9:21 am #344818I paid the extra for exclusive Velvet Red £1,000+ option on the Enyak.
It cost me the difference between the standard metallic paint and the option i chose.
March 13, 2026 at 10:53 am #344823Quite right, my dealer insisted it was £1065 for the Velvet Red, however, a lot of people have reported that they only paid the difference between metallic and the exclusive paint costs (which I’ve done on other Motability cars), which is £385. I told them to keep it 🙂
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
March 13, 2026 at 11:15 am #344828What do people think about black as a car colour? I quite like the look of it, but I’ve heard it can show dirt and scratches more easily.
Do any of you have a black car and regret it, or do you still like it?

Black cars, particularly metallic or pearlescent look fantastic when clean and polished.
The difficulty is keeping them that way!
Yes, they do show up dust and dirt very easily. Wash and lovingly polish/wax the car, then take it out on the road just once. You will come back and wondered why you bothered!
Having had a few black cars many years ago and living on a farm, I certainly would not get another. Other colours mask dirt much better and look reasonably ‘clean’ even when covered in a film of dust or dirt.
March 13, 2026 at 11:30 am #344832I have a black car at the moment. I spend more time cleaning than driving! I do have a bit of OSD when it comes to cleaning, being ex military.
Black is great when clean, in the summer dust settles on the paintwork, and is very visible, in the winter it gets dirty incredibly easily.
As for scratches they will easily show, I never take mine to a car wash, if you were to, the car would have numerous swirl marks and scratches. So in conclusion I wouldn’t get black again.
March 13, 2026 at 12:16 pm #344836Black – A bugger to clean and keep clean, those pesky swirl marks forever needing attention!

I’ve lost count of how many cars I’ve owned, but only one was black. It was a mistake that I’ve chosen not to repeat!
My experience is exactly the same as others have stated. It looks good for no time at all. Even in dry weather a dust forms on it which makes it look dirty. Raindrops stain it. Polish leaves swirls. Every scratch shows. Cleaning damages it (swirls again). I could go on! Even white is far better to keep looking clean! Black and white used to be the ‘free’ colours on cars – for a reason!
IMO black only works on limos, where the chauffeur has the challenge of trying to keep it looking clean 😂
March 13, 2026 at 2:59 pm #344844I’ve always had metallic silver doesn’t show muck up
March 13, 2026 at 3:02 pm #344845I think all car colour choices of black to white, and every variation of grey are getting dull and boring.
I had to pick the metallic blue on the Enyaq, as I didn’t want to pay more for the red or olive. My favourite colour was my old ‘Broom Yellow’ Fiat Punto GT, with gun metal alloys.
That just seems to glow golden in summer sunshine of the early 2000sThey need to start doing more happy, brighter colours, that don’t blend into the tarmac or grey clouds.

Mine on pickup day. Black Package edition. Looked the dogs that day but anything but when neglected. Bird poo really noticeable. Even though I don’t wash mine often it still looks mean from a distance in the car park. It’s only a lease car and with the crud on the country roads round here, it’s not worth my effort cleaning it religiously.
March 14, 2026 at 10:38 pm #344925never have a black car again hard to keep clean scratches more easily
March 14, 2026 at 11:30 pm #344927I’ve had just about every colour and black and white are absolute pigs to keep looking good. White was just a bitch to get clean and hated staying that way.
Some reds and blues look brilliant clean and keep that good over an extended period beyond that of the monochrome extremes. Others just look naff clean or mucky.
I dislike silvers and most greys, that’s just a personal thing. Some darker greys can, however, look good clean.
