      hi all

i now have the option to charge at our local dobbies at 55p possibley less (still looking at this).

i havent been out for 2 weeks (sad life i know) other than visit to car dealers to test possible candidates.

the scarey thought is i could easily not leave my house unless i have a medical appointment.

however i am determined to change that and i am going to sort a gym membership for physio.

that will mean my mileage will be:

      gym 4 miles x 5 per week 20 miles.

then the odd docs 5 miles return.

      hosp 18 miles return.

      dobbies charger/coffee 6 miles return.

so lets say 125 miles a week max.

thats doable charging once a month keeping above 20%. even at 20% i am going to have more than enough to get to docs/hosp.

electric candidates c3 aircross max, mini countryman monochrome.

would you agree its doable charging once a month or maybe every 3 weeks?

there is a bit of me that says just dont renew and stay at home.

I seem to be in the minority.  The 20-80% thing works for rapid charging on a run.  After 80% charging slows horribly (in some cars the last 20% takes longer than the previous 80%).  That said when charging at a slower rate, there’s nothing wrong with going above 80%.  I regularly charge back to full and there’s no further degradation in doing so.  People forget there are buffers beyond the chargeable range to prevent an actual 100% charge.

All that rant done, at 55p it’s not looking economical to change, add in the ‘must go to charge’ and it becomes a pain, especially when you get back from an appointment and see you’re below your given minimum and know that regardless of other plans your day starts with a trip to the garden centre.

mark, yes thats going to be the consideration that may swing it i would probabley not let it get as low as 20% but as you say life gets in the way sometimes.

however if the mini is the most comfortable the monochrome is by far the best deal as far as spec is concerned as the petrols need the level 1 pack to get to similar specs so the ap jumps i havent worked out yet if the pain of the ap would be covered by reduced costs etc.

test drives are arranged apart from the quashqai. so i will know by the end of the month.

The QQ ePower would be top of my petrol list. I currently have one April 2023.
The new facelift version has the improved ePower system, that is quieter and more economical than mine.
In spring to autumn, i’m often 60-80mpg. Even in November last year I got 70.7mpg for a 16mi journey when it was 2°c one evening. Yes it goes to 30-50mpg during the winter months, but it’s been quite mild this  winter.

I’d only get the Tekna trim, just for the heated seats and steering wheel. Helps with MPG in winter, if your on your own driving.

Enjoy the test drives @mitch I have two 48 hour test drives arranged myself over the next 2 weeks and am really looking forward to them. Usually I have my heart set on a car, but then after a couple of days driving them I start to see the things that I don’t like, or would irritate me and I’m back to square one again 😂

I have no first hand experience of any of the cars on your shortlist, but based solely on looks and what I’ve read about them from owners experiences, I’d probably say that the Qashqai e-Power would be top of my list as well.
