First comprehensive review into PIP finds it is “not fit for purpose”
My point is simple
If something has to be looked at then best to not rush it through just to meet a political aim that had already failed once
The whole thing imo is staged managed by Sit Timms and .Gov adhering to a strict/narrow remit token casting of all concerned
Circus imo and this is just the start
Its going to gain pace imo and we could all end up with vouchers
Press release today
First comprehensive review into PIP finds it is “not fit for purpose”
Personal Independence Payment is no longer fit for purpose and is failing to keep pace with how disability, health and work have changed over the past decade, the Timms Review has found.

He’s not wrong. Being assessed on your ability to do a number of tasks by someone who doesn’t necessarily understand your conditions, especially if you’ve something rare or a complex group of comorbidities, all in the premise that most claimants are trying to get something they may not be entitled to, isn’t fit for today’s enhanced medical understanding of disabilities.
What replaces it is the worrying concept.

July 10, 2026 at 12:03 am #372579I agree with the thrust of the above reply
But Ive never been one to put my head in the sand
I have zero optimism that Timms or anyone else has ever had our welfare at the top of their agenda or that they ever will ( not that at the end of the day he gets to call a single shot as the outcome of this whole farce is and was only ever to simply be something to consider the new lobbyist chief of staff will do what is right for private investors along with the eager beaver Mc Fadden best mate of Mandelson
Do not expect fair play imo it aint happening
We are simply a political football easy pickings now that their own troughs have been run dry
The DWP are as we all know and many to their peril unaccountable always have been and imo always will be
Improvements to Assessments? is for the birds imo
I was one of the first to get PIP and have fought many battles to end up with my indefinite award so speak with some knowledge
This is of course only imo
DWP is tainted we all know that and anyone with any worth to us will not want that association on their CV
Promises are grandstanding window dressing that will come to nothing imo as all the MPs want to do is nod and keep their own well paid jobs and benefits
Changes are needed but at the end of the day not all will be for the good
Good changes take time/money/support all that is missing and imo why going forward this will fail to deliver what is promised
From start to finish its been called a farce/circus/staged
There will be change
I have no doubt and once the ball gets rolling with Mc Fadden and Andymans lobbyist chief advisor we will all feel the brunt of those changes as time goes by
Thoughts anyone ?
July 10, 2026 at 12:12 am #372580Best possible case? Between Timms and Burnham there is a new system out in place that is fair, assesses needs and attributes an award to those needs.
By 2030 a new government is elected. Unless Burnham works a miracle and the whole of the UK starts to feel even remotely better off, it’ll probably be a shade of blue in control, which means that whatever was put in place will be regarded as too soft and completely overhauled anyway. Whilst spouting BS about caring for genuinely disabled but needing to get the shirkers back to work, we’ll get screwed.
Timms is right, current system isn’t fit for purpose but even if they can devise and implement a new system before the next election, we’ll be only a general election away from getting thoroughly screwed. Afterall, according to both reform and the Conservatives the Welfare bill is responsible for the lack of defence spending and investment and probably a few other things on top.

July 10, 2026 at 1:31 am #372581Is Timms staying in his current post under Burnham or will this die of death through rejection again or will it get pushed through early behind closed doors before 20th July!
The whole saga, has just been that- a govenment led for the government review. The whole circus of getting disabled/disabled charities involved, was nothing less than a whitewash circus by the government.
Vouchers won’t work within a world of diverse disabilities and varying needs of each individual.
July 10, 2026 at 10:21 am #373229July 10, 2026 at 10:30 am #373231The whole point of the review is to cut Govt costs.
It is merely a rubber stamp to suggest they had done everything possible…which is nonsense
At least the Kray twins Cameron and Osbourne just wielded the hatchet and blamed the disabled and unemployed for their inept handling of the economy and the Great Financial Crisis.
It is cyclic, these losers are gonna wield the hatchet and we will get hit hard.
It does not matter which monkey is in power, they are all the same.

I could not have put that better myself
We are imo no matter which .Gov all eventually to be caught between the devil and the deep blue sea imo
Welfare spending hasn’t increased ( decades of DWP system check failures continue to cost millions yet the press will ignore such topics ( maybe subtract that and for example all of the 12yrs of wasted reviews and tribunal costs from the figures and welfare spending may well have gone down )
its all a ploy a distraction imo that stupid Joe public and main stream media play along with just so at the last minute they can pull out of the hat a sticky plaster solution to their yrs of under funding for example defense
( where did all that money go? the answers are there but the media and PMs fail to ask such questions)
A dilemma for sure
We will have to helplessly wait and see the scale and time frame of whatever is to come
I will now end my post there as my point has been made and tbh this whole sad saga pisses me off
July 11, 2026 at 5:05 pm #373318Having worked for 27 years, in the DWP, I know (as we all do) when ever a Government does a public consultation such as PIP, or “Who should pay for Social Care”, it is an exercise to show that the public want’s what the Government had already decided to implement in the first place.
I think that the important parts are,
38,000 people and organization’s responded and “90% viewed it negatively”. Who were they and did 90% say they wanted it cut or scrapped. I don’t know how many member’s Reform has.
“it is not working for Disabled people or WIDER SOCIETY”.
Did PIP claimant’s really say it ” creates barriers to participating fully in work, social and community life”.
It is simple, you have two sides, PIP claimant’s who say it is a lifeline and on the other side The Government and non PIP claimant’s who say I am not getting it and so I am not paying for it.
If the Government are going to cut the Welfare Bill, then justify why and how they are going to do it and don’t spend millions trying to kid on it is the public’s idea.
