Finally after what can only be described as a mission, i have had my charger fitted. Why Motability went with this company is beyond me, they are about as helpful as Frank Spencer on an off day. Its taken almost 4 months from application to get it installed and ive lost count of how many emails and phone calls ive made just to try and find out the status of the application, they are really un helpful and rude when you do get through on the phone. I almost gave up hope and at one point was just going to get an independent to install one and pay for it myself but its in now so i can enjoy the faster charge times from home.

Hallelujah Stuart. I’ll crack open a few beers this evening to celebrate. I’m so pleased it’s finally installed. It will be interesting to see how long they take to install mine. I have had an email 5 days ago to say they are waiting for permission from my Distribution Network Provider. Happy charging.???

Glad you eventually got your charger Stuart.  I agree about Chargemaster, I still haven’t even been contacted by them, 3 weeks after placing my order, thankfully I can’t get a charger, but would like the free subscription they are meant to offer.  Has anyone had a positive experience with them?

They couldn’t do me a charger as they insisted the access path to the car park was a public footpath (it isn’t, it’s on private land & is for us to access our cars parked outside (we already charge our wheelchairs in our cars in our numbered disabled car spaces right outside our homes).

They also haven’t provided me with the free subscription to the BP card.

Bunch of lazy crooks it seems, & worse, when I asked someone who installs PodPoints to take a look, they said there was no reason they could see as to why BP refused the application & I’d have had the free PodPoint if Motability hadn’t messed about switching from the car manufacturers deal (Peugeot) to insisting on BP whilst I was waiting for my car.

Still, I have the OHME charger solution & will make use of the intelligent charger using plunge pricing to claw back having to pay for my own installation.

@Intranicity. My experience is positive so far, I had an email 2 days after the order went in with a link to fill in the online form.  I had an email to say they had to wait for permission to do the install from the Distribution Network. Also they were happy with the completed form.

Thanks everyone, could not believe how long it took. Firstly i had to have an isolation switch fitted in the outside electric box because i have a 100 amp fuse, this delayed the installation by 2 weeks. Then on the day of installation the electrician said he could not fit the connection to my current fuse box so he had to fit a secondary unit in the kitchen alongside my own, luckily this is in a cupboard so its out of site but he wanted to fit an external one which was huge and would have looked stupid on the side of the house but her indoors was having none of that lol. I have attached pictures of the additions just so anyone expecting an installation knows what to expect.

So if you have only a 60 amp fuse ( black box with R in Stuarts pic ) this has to be changed to 100 amp with isolation switch beforehand

I think I’m correct in thinking that most house’s have a 60amp fuse (which is single phase) if you have a 100 amp fuse it means you a have 3 phase power coming into your house.  You only need 3 phase if you have large motor driven devices located at your address, I think you would also need 3 phase if you wanted a 22 Kwh wall charger installed.

60 amps is adequate for the 7 Kwh wall charger.

Mine is 100 amp, with isolation switch, in a domestic property ,they say this is now the new normal and can be upgraded free of charge,as for the fuse needed for an ev ?  will leave that to an electrician , one on here at all ?

7w charger uses 32 amps of the 60 available on 32 amp fuse see below

Sorry should have said 7Kwh wall charger uses 32 amps of the 60 amp fuse leaving only 28 amps for all the house and uses this all the time it is charging the vehicle  watch above better than first one

From what the electrician said to me you only need the isolation switch fitting if you have the 100 amp fuse, the 60 amp is fine for the charger and does not require an upgrade to 100 or the isolation switch. But what confused me was his statement about my fuse box, he told me as i have modern RCD fuses the EV fuse cannot be fitted to the existing unit which is why the new fuse box containing the RCD for the EV was fit in the cupboard next to mine. My thought was they would just add another fuse to my existing consumer unit, the one they wanted to fit outside was huge and had to be mounted below the white electric box which would have looked a right eye sore on the drive so i said no way.
