I have just called another dealer to see if they have a “white” one in I can have a look at. I then ended up telling them the full story about the misinformation the other dealer had given me and how he had literally talked me out of getting one with the off-white colour being the final straw. He said he would clarify the “home charger” situation for me………..

Just emailed me after talking to his “Motability specialist” and he informs me the i3 is not available on the scheme. Still 7 of them when I look.

This is what I am up against………

    Update from Motability:

‘the costs around the installation of the wallcharger are covered by BMW, so the only costs you will incur will be the normal Advance Payment and weekly lease payments for the Motability car’

Could BMW be taking it back at the end of the lease then?

A lot to be said for having a socket and not a tethered cable that has to be changed by an electrician in the future if you get a different car.?

I can see a Catch-22 there, you have to have an electric car that qualifies to be able to get the charging socket installed. It’s the opposite of what motability are doing by insisting you have a charger first.?

    Great news.

I wonder if any members have gone for the Renault Zoe and had any similar problems.

Different rules apply to Renault and Smart, this only relates to BMW. I’ve a feeling this is going to rumble on for a while. The flow of information to the customers and dealerships is shall we be polite and call it ‘delayed’.

I’ve just had confirmation from the dealer that the wall box is included. A BMW AC fast charge cable is also thrown in.

So great news in the end. The dealer is now processing the details with Chargemaster and I should hear from them soon to arrange a time for the install.

    filey333,

thats excellant news thats a real saving looking at the prices in the price list.

it puts the i3 right up there on my short list, i just need to be able to keep on as i am for another year ideally to get to lease end then that way assuming prices stay the same or similar with gcb etc the base i3 wont cost me any extra as i am wpms so need to find £900.

Try this! I wanted to see where all the charging stations were but the only fuels it would let me put in were diesel and petrol. ? I wonder with BMW being BMW if they are not going to charge you for this information just like they charge for Apple Carplay?.

    Hi all

Great to see so much interest in the BMW i3 and i3s on Motability.

We can confirm that the BMW i Wallbox Connect (usually £825.00) is included free of charge with all i3/i3s models on the scheme. The free ‘standard installation’ of the unit will be handled by our charging partner, BP Chargemaster.

We have also included the AC Single-Phase Type 2 public charge cable (usually £165.00) free of charge.

I hope this helps to clarify things. We hope you agree that the i3 and i3s are exciting additions to Motability.

    thank you

Thank you for this, I actually have solar panels and am I right in thinking the ibox connect diverts solar energy into the car when available?

Charging points are included within the cost of the monthly lease and Advance Payment

It really is that simple, but many Motability dealerships aren’t aware of how it is supposed to work and not every Customer Services advisor at Motability would immediately know. Motability don’t want to mess people around, but equally they do want to make sure that anybody who has an electric vehicle has the means to effectively recharge it.

Once installed, the charging point is yours and would not need to be returned at the end of lease (irrespective of what the dealership say). Bear in mind that all Motability cars are leased, but not from the manufacturer – directly from Motability!

This means that the car (and anything else associated/included with it) is the property of Motability, <span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>not</span> the dealership. Dealers are simple service agents once the car is delivered to you and the PIN entered, so don’t let them get too big for their boots.

Or have them tell me that they do not make any money from the sale and are only doing it for the numbers!?

Can confirm BMW. Charger is fitted free of charge. Charge master fit it on behalf of BMW. Excellent installation, very neat and no mess.
