Hello friends, we are due to change on April 1st so we can place an order from 31st Dec onwards. I find this the trickiest part of the year as quite a lot of AP changes and MB car models come and go during the first 2 weeks of Jan.

Unfortunately, the wife (MB customer) destroyed my carefully researched plans for a fully-loaded Enyaq as she really couldn’t get in and out easily when we tried it (all EVs are a pain for her with the high/flat floor and the lack of a real handle on the door.

So our ever shrinking option list now has the 2 Series Active Tourer (225 Xe) and the iX1. We are still to try them for ease of access but I’m confident they will be ok for her (as both were conventional cars to start with rather than EV-designed).

Big question is do we order before or after 31st Dec? Nobody has a crystal ball, I appreciate that but if anyone has heard anything about
      a) will these 2 models still be on the list come Jan and
      b) is their AP likely to go up or down

      I’ll be forever grateful!

Thank you in advance for any intel/guesses which are all we’ve got at the moment.

Can’t comment on either of the cars, however you can order on the 31st and if prices are favourable in the next quarter you can amend/cancel your original order.

thanks slimtrim, i may have to do that and hope we won’t fall out with the dealer (it will be a factory order with all the extras so they should welcome my business even with a couple of weeks of messing about)

I can order my new car this Friday but I’m waiting for January 2nd to see the new models on motability and price drops or price increases that’s the gamble I’m taking

Should be fine, dealers are quite flexible and happy to amend orders to reflect new MB price changes.

I would definately place an order in December. BMW yearly price increase is January so could affect the AP negatively. The i4 35 sport is on the list, find it easy to get in and out having arthritis so have ordered, the most popular BMW on Mobility. Marshalls of Grimsby are giving £500 contribution towards.

Lead times vary between models, the 1st thing is a showroom visit for your wife to see which model is right for her.

If you order now you have secured the car at todays AP, if the AP goes down in January you can request the dealer to change it to the lower AP. If the AP were to go up in January, yu have the comfort of knowing you have ordered at the lower AP.

Worse case, the car is removed from the scheme in January

Having dealt with BMW dealerships in the past I would suggest starting to do a bit of sniffing around right now

BMW will be keen to take an order before Jan therefore the bargaining chip is yours to use

Not sure if you have more than one BMW dealer near to you or not

In any event I would be inclined to ring BMW dealers far and wide and ask to speak to the teams dedicated motorbility advisor explain your situation and ask if they have any AP reduction offers now or coming up

Leave contact details and ask them to keep you updated

If successful then simply ask your local dealer to price match

                          Nothing ventured nothing gained

Also keep and eye on this sites dedicated deals/offers thread and also if you want you can ask the same thing there

As others have said, it’s very high risk to wait until January if you can order in December and it could be a costly mistake if the AP increases. Worst still, one or both of your shortlisted cars could be removed on 1st January and then you won’t be able to order them when you could have done the day before.

Honesty is the best policy. Simply say to your BMW dealer that you want to order on 31st December just in case the car is removed on 1st Jan or the AP increases, but if the AP drops on the 1st you want them to cancel and re-order at the lower AP on the Motability system. Takes them just a few minutes to do this as it’s just admin and not the actual vehicle order. My BMW dealer did it without me even asking them to when the AP dropped just £100 after we had ordered.
