Being charged extra for metallic paint

      Hi all,

My lease is coming to an end for my Audi Q3 and i am considering ordering the BMW X2. I had a 24 hour test drive and absolutely loved it. I went to place my order and the dealer is telling me that i need to pay £550 for metallic paint on top of the advance payment which i am not willing to do. I have never had to pay for metallic paint before and i am on my 5th motability car.

Has anybody else came across this and confirm if this is correct?

      Thanks

I always thought all except special paints were included as it adds to the final value price on end of lease. No , haven’t heard about being charged extra. Maybe just an inexperienced dealer. Try calling another dealer and during your  enquiries drop in about metallic paint

When I ordered my X1 18 months ago my preferred colour was alpine white, which is the colour I have but the dealer kept telling me to have a metallic colour at no extra cost, apparently motability prefer metallic colours, according to the motability specialist. Might be better resale value.

Unless its been changed we don’t pay extra for paint… dealer either doesn’t know or is a chancer

Point him in the direction of Motability and hopefully they will suggest retraining also. But if it’s normal metallic then there is no charge.

Standard metallic paint is included in your lease, special colours are chargeable at the difference between metallic and special prices, the dealer is talking rubbish, call motability and tell them and they will get in touch with the dealer and set him straight, unless he knows and is trying for a sneaky deposit in which case I would tell him to get stuffed and go elsewhere and report him to motability.

I have crooked sales reps. ???

If you look at the bottom column on the left it clearly states motability cars include metalic paint at no extra cost. This from BMW U.K. website.

Best to ask him to clarify the point with Motability, he must be a chancer or an idiot if he doesn’t know that metallic paint is included.

I have the X2 and the metallic paint is limited to about 5 choices. I chose the Mineral white. However if you select a metallic that is not in the free range, ie a premium colour, then yes you would have to pay the extra.

                          Which colour did you chose?

PS this is the same for all dealers irrespective of car make.

Can remember when there was a choice of flat, metallic and depending on make / model pearlescent colours included in the scheme / AP  but having a “premium” one seems like yet another way of “forcing” options on people.  Pretty sure I’ve seen something as exotic as a variation of white being considered premium, popular maybe (no idea why) but expensive to produce and apply I very much doubt….

Motability say that dealers CAN charge extra for metallic but the vast majority don’t and, as pointed out above, BMW’s own literature specifically says it’s no charge – double check the colour you asked for is definitely a standard metallic though – they absolutely can charge extra for Pearls and Special colours
