I must vent my anger, this morning parked in a disabled bay on Morrison and another disabled driver drove into the back of my car, he went to walk off till I shouted at him, he was just was not interested, lucky we have a towbar so no damage to our car.
It is mind blowing he just did not see me parked there he was as blinds as a bat, I took photos of hos car, blue badge and registration no just in case. If we had been loading the scooter or shopping into the boot at the time we would have been seriously injured.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.

JaneI hate the mentality of some people.
May 10, 2018 at 11:18 am #50639An apology would have been nice, but judging by the state of his car I am not the only stationary object to come into contact with him.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.

Glos GuyI have to say that although the wider disabled parking bays are a godsend, given my wife’s wheelchair, you do see some shocking driving / parking standards from a small number of disabled / elderly drivers and do wonder how safe they are (or not) on the open road.
May 10, 2018 at 1:26 pm #50647I think it’s about time supermarkets etc should make parking spaces larger including making the roads wider. Standard sizing for today’s vehicles are not adequate. Not many of today’s cars will fit into a standard single garage. Well they might fit but you can’t get out.

finsoopAt Southampton central station I know they have made all bays bigger as some too small for a medium car. Also some public car parks on newbury.
May 10, 2018 at 1:38 pm #50651Makes you wonder if this person is fit to drive.
My father in law who’s now 84 was made to give up driving by the family after a series of accidents over an approx 6 month period, he’s since been diagnosed with alzheimer’s and would have had his license taken from him anyhow.
Thankfully there was no-one was hurt this time, but how many near-misses does it take to get careless drivers off the roads.

MikeI see this all the while at my Tesco however with the warm sunny weather I’m afraid I’ve nearly crashed looking at the lovely ladies !

WinstonI’m not elderly bashing here folks lol as getting older is a part of life ?
but I do notice some very near misses and dangerous driving on the roads ( not on purpose I’d imagine ) from some elderly drivers and you drive away feeling it’s not a case of if but more like a matter of when they are going to be involved in or cause an accident
As mentioned above I’m sure they don’t realise the chaos around them or the impact their driving can have – unlike some younger drivers who do realise but just don’t care about other drivers
its a tough one to Police and monitor as some medical conditions associated with age are almost impossible to detect at the early stages and bringing in some type of reaction/observation test every couple of years would surely be deemed as too expensive and met with protest from the thousands of safe and competent elderly drivers
so many cars of the road now, so many impatient drivers desperate to get to their destination
I’ve never been in accident to date, touch wood that continues
I extend those hopes to all of you ??
May 10, 2018 at 4:34 pm #50673About an hour ago I got a phone call from a friend. She has just had her new min countryman reversed into by an elderly lady trying to get off a disabled bay. My friend was in the loo at the time but fortunately two people saw it happen and made sure the driver waited to exchange insurance details.
She was evidently a lovely old lady, but a terrible driver by her own admission!
May 10, 2018 at 4:38 pm #50675
WinstonOh dear! What a nitemare for her! I’m glad your friend and the old lady wasn’t injured
but how are you meant to react when the other person says “I’m a terrible driver”
<p style=”text-align: right;”></p>May 10, 2018 at 7:19 pm #50701Perhaps when there is an accident and an obvious point of blame, then a charge of driving without due care and attention should be bought. A certain number over a certain period of time would incite a ban, after-which an extended retest would be required to get your licence back. This is for all drivers regardless of age, makes sense to me and would help keep the roads / parking lots safer.
Only problem would be in policing this, unless you have portable cop-shop cabins housed in supermarket car parks…… certainly the supermarkets wouldn’t mind and would reduce shoplifting at the same time.. win win!

John Williams (Last three … 602)Hi,
Not quite on topic, but parking bays are required to be 8 feet (2.4m) wide.
I suggest that everybody should be required to drive in … immediate parking, drive straight in, so don’t obstruct anybody … reverse out when it’s clear to do so.
Everybody to park with their off-side wheels ON the appropriate white line, so maximum possible distance between cars, both sides.
Even better if the bays were angled, though that would lose one bay per lane
October 5, 2021 at 8:19 am #165904The loss of 1 would derive major benefits.

RichardwI’m quite shore that when there is such a huge shortage of Police ‘on the ground’ , having a permanent presence in supermarket car parks would be a non-starter. The world is full of poor drivers and prosecutions for minor car park bumps is certainly not the answer.
October 5, 2021 at 8:48 am #165910Many supermarkets also refuse to police disabled bays properly due to abuse. This seems worse in urban areas.
October 5, 2021 at 8:52 am #165911an old guy actually hit me when on my crutches in morrisons car park. i wasnt injured but he never noticed or didnt acknowlege at least. just drove away irratically. unfortunately i only had me and a passing woman, and neither of us managed to note the reg.
after saying that, the number of aggressive youngish males driving these days is a bigger worry.
