It would appear within weeks if the Middle East war carries on Europe will experience fuel shortages, Asia is already on a 4 day week, it has been reported on the TV this morning petrol stations have temporary run out of fuel.
This morning they were discussing rationing of fuel to help industry and supply chains, fortunately we are approaching spring/summer, however we are going to see a energy price hike in July around the £300/£350 mark.

Good question, so many variables involved.
But I wouldn’t be surprised at whatever happens, esp when Trump is the mover and shaker. Everything seems so volatile these days.

March 25, 2026 at 12:35 pm #349276In our area we are seeing fuel prices increasing by the day without fail, I can see speed limit initial being introduced, as regards rationing that will reduce revenue to the treasury I could only see that as a last resort, on the plus side it will gives Ed Miliband more ammunition to push us into EV’s.

March 25, 2026 at 1:15 pm #349278Brent and WTI fell below $100 today. Dubai sits at around $130 a barrel. The UK no longer depends heavily on oil from the middle east, with the US, Norway being are biggest suppliers. UAE now sits in 11th place and we only import 1% of gas from Qatar, althogh we aren’t immune to price shocks unfortunately.
More press scare mongering if you ask me.
March 27, 2026 at 12:52 am #349439Not really.
Reuters: Shell CEO Wael Sawan, is warning energy shortages in Europe next month, which is a week or so away.
It does not matter whether a country uses middle east oil or not. The price per barrel is worldwide. When 30% of energy production is offline from Hormuz (LNG and crude) there will be shortages. As I said give it a week or two and there will be petrol stations closed.
Shells CEO warning is not a meme or fake news.
March 27, 2026 at 7:14 am #349440It comes down to who is going to the highest bidder, supply and demand, several of the smaller/independent retailer have already voiced supplier hiking there prices, they are going to struggle

March 27, 2026 at 7:50 am #349442One if the Euronews channels have picked up on the sale of 2nd hand EV,s are exploding in Europe. They can see what is coming.
But yes, the highest bidder just drives the crude prices up.
March 27, 2026 at 11:06 am #349485Octopus Energy has report a 50% increase in enquires for solar panes since the Middle East crisis. Fuel prices still increasing daily in our area.

March 27, 2026 at 11:46 am #349495My local Sainsbury’s reduced their litre price yesterday by 4p with other Sainsbury’s in the Bristol area only cutting 2p but all others are holding out for bigger profits.
While the pumps are a bit busier than normal there are no queues so would say no panicking here.
March 27, 2026 at 1:09 pm #349505I saw that yesterday £138.9 litre, I outside Tesco £145.9 diesel £172.9 but they have run out.
average around here unleaded £152.8 , diesel £178.9
It will go up tomorrow without fail. Glad we got a PHEV

March 27, 2026 at 4:08 pm #349519I blame alot on the media lol.
Esso unleaded is 143.9 here, cheaper than Tesco and Morisons.
March 27, 2026 at 4:12 pm #349522There was a very long queue at Sainsbury’s petrol station this morning. I saw diesel at £1.81 on Monday.

March 27, 2026 at 4:29 pm #349525Good afternoon and welcome to today’s round-up from The Star, Sheffield team.
A Sheffield petrol station is shut today after running out of both petrol and diesel.
And with the fuel situation beginning to turn into a crisis, it’s not the only fuel court running dry near Drakehouse.

I am glad I have a PHEV running on off peak or solar energy.

March 27, 2026 at 5:40 pm #349534The media is lapping up the fact that a few Asda petrol stations have shortages. The petrol retailers association is saying that, in totality, there are no issues (“supply is stable”) and “there will only be shortages if people panic buy” (which is what caused the shortages the last two occasions). Too late. As before, the media will be generating panic buying and therefore shortages that would otherwise never have happened 🤔
March 27, 2026 at 6:08 pm #349535It’s the media whipping up a frenzy as @Glos Guy says.
The Daily Express is the worst, they’ve been saying for days that fuel rationing is coming soon and using AI photography of massive queues at petrol stations. One was a Tesco which had a sign near the pumps saying you could buy Spuds, Orsinas and Isnacs in the shop. Exactly 😆
I work p/t at a Sainsbury’s petrol station and our prices have come down in the last two days by 7p per litre (140.9/166.9)
Strangely, the local Tesco has run out of diesel a couple of times in the past few days, which makes no sense as AFAIK they also get theirs via Greenergy in Grays, Essex. Maybe their planners are less competent!

March 31, 2026 at 4:45 pm #350168I was in Sainsbury’s this morning and the filling station was shut with a sign saying No Fuel, happened to drive past Asda and Morrisons this afternoon and they were both also closed. Don’t think it’s a supply issue as the more expensive independent filling stations had fuel, I thinks it’s more down to people topping up to try and keep a full tank. Saw a story today in the news about someone putting petrol in plastic carrier bags. 🙄

Wouldn’t petrol melt a carrier bag though!
March 31, 2026 at 5:19 pm #350175We have just this minute had our normal April delivery of 25,000 litres of rebatable (red) diesel and 8000 litres of road (DERV) diesel delivered out of bunkerage.
As well as the usual 70,000 litres of red diesel at our arable farms, again out of bunkerage earlier today.
Chatting to the tanker drivers, there is presently no shortage of diesel or petrol at the refineries or the storage depots.
Any ‘shortage’ is down to customers panic buying extra fuel which means tankers cannot replenish fuel stations fast enough before they run out of fuels. The strong demand is also pushing up forecourt prices even further (law of supply and demand) before today’s crude oil increases have even worked their way through.

Literally just said that to Mrs Joe about 5 minutes ago. I said the bags would have melted by the time she got home, IF she got home.

I think its a pre April fools, on the simple fact I use a poly bag under a container when draing fuel out of mower and the bag disolves pretty quickly if fuel get spilt.
March 31, 2026 at 6:25 pm #350207I felt guilty last week buying £2 of petrol for my strimmer, didn’t want to buy more as it hardly uses anything. I’m sure everyone thought I was panic buying, even though the car I was in is electric.
