Got a guy in to give me a price for fitting some new internal doors. I am looking for 14 doors to be fitted three of which are toilet doors. Guy came out and measured up and left with the “I will text you a price”.
Got a price in today £95 a door for the toilet doors and £85 for the others.
Now, I’m no joiner, but I’ve fitted internal doors myself and I can fit a non toilet door in about an hour and a bit, sometimes quicker, depends on weather it needs cut or not.
Got a local electrician in to fit a Daikin thermostat to replace the third party thermostat installed by my, now defunct installer. Wouldn’t come out unless I paid him £50, which I did. He spent an hour trying to fit it without success before saying he would contact Daikin and come back tomorrow. Never seen him again and not answering my calls.
I’ve had problems with virtually every trade I’ve employed so the question is, is it me 😂😂😤😩

Are toilet doors a larger size and does fitting include the door?
Your thermostat needs connecting to the cloud before it will work wireless, with a maximum of 5 wires to connect, not 50 or 500!
There’s only one good tradesman down Wales and thats me 😂 I had a tiler in to do the bathroom, he called is company Elite, rather than a more accurate discription of Elite sh!t!

July 4, 2026 at 8:37 am #372200Its the same old story buy cheap pay dear.
The most important factor is getting a tradesman you can trust.
Really good tradesmen do not have livery on their van. Their work is in such demand their waiting times are measured in weeks or months.
Get people you can trust, by reputation from friends and colleagues.
The other factor is price
What you paid for a job in 2018, it will have doubled since then.
July 4, 2026 at 11:09 am #372206Yup, finding a reliable tradesman is particularly hard these days. The toilet door will have locks on, I guess thats an extra £10 to do!
Best of luck getting the doors hung.

Definately the opposite imo.
Turning up to a job with a nicely signwritten (clean) van gives the customer confidence that you’re a legitimate and professional business, in contrast to cowboy builders and dodgy trades people from the likes of my builder, who typically have blank vans becuse they don’t want company name to be in the public eye.
Many customers don’t mind wait if your upfront with them and having the simpls’t sign on a van, might just go a long way filling up the books during your quite months.
July 4, 2026 at 2:52 pm #372218Slightly different to my original post but we got my father in law a new tv during the week and they delivered it today however they delivered the wrong tv and left it in the middle of the floor rather than taking it away. We went into the Curry’s shop where we purchased it and got it all sorted but it’s a 40 mile return journey that I could have done without. My father in law had to ask them to stop swearing as he said they’re language was foul 😞

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.July 4, 2026 at 9:51 pm #372241I think £85-£95 for 14 doors is over the top, they’re doing 14 doors ffs, they’ll be there a few days which gives them a day rate of £500-£600. £95 each for 2 doors I can understand but this is a couple of days work for them.
I’ve absolutely been put off having any work done on the house because I can pick holes out of every job I’ve had done in the last few years. Worst was a painter and decorator who didn’t even wipe the windowsill before painting it, he painted bits into the woodwork. He came back and put it right after I left his review.
July 4, 2026 at 11:04 pm #372246If you lived in London maybe, but the further north you go prices tend to be cheaper, but alot depends whether they are hollow egg box or solid doors.
July 4, 2026 at 11:35 pm #372252Playing devils advocate, to my own thread, I’ve just had my house painted and the guys were pretty good, a bit disorganised but overall pretty happy with the result.
Kezo have you left the scheme? I’ve not read many posts recently but I noticed that you and others have left. What was your reasoning?

I am looking for 3 decent glass doors for downstairs and 11 decent doors elsewhere. The 11 doors were £150 a piece and the three glass doors were £300 each. Adding that to the install price and I’ve decided to give it a miss and just paint them 😂

Unfortunately that didn’t happen so we called the number the guy in Curry’s gave us and it was not a recognised number. So we were set to head into the shop, 20 miles away, when the phone went and the guy who gave us the dicky number asked if everything had been installed to our satisfaction wt£. My wife explained what had happened and he went off the phone to see where the tv was. To cut a long story short we got a call just five minutes ago from the potty mouth delivery guys saying they will be delivering at 12:00. 🤞

Richer Sounds 6yr guarantee on most TV’s, far better than national chains like Curry’s and not any dearer.
@Jojoe got a cracking mini LED from them for a good price.July 5, 2026 at 5:26 pm #372274Alls well that ends well. Tv delivered and installed. Father in law delighted.
Now for a discussion on compensation.

Perhaps a certified engineer shouldd have fitted the heatpump from the off!
Did you get your £50 back of the other guy?
July 8, 2026 at 9:19 pm #372472Nope stopped answering my calls. Can’t go on spending money on this system and trying to get warranties sorted as the original company had done nothing. I don’t know where he got the solar panels or the Sunsynk inverter in the process of registering the Daikin heat pump so hopefully that will be sorted. There was no record of my ever receiving a Daikin heat pump when I spoke to them.
The Scottish Government are still deciding what to do with those who had the bust company as their installer. That’s over a year now.

July 9, 2026 at 1:12 am #372481It’s a joke kezo they paid them for work they didn’t do but expect me to pay it back. I’ve completed all the work but they haven’t given me all the grant. I’m left with credit card debt when it should all have been interest free loans. They haven’t given a lot to answer for 😤
