Hi all, Im trying to find out just what is supplied with the OHME charger supplied by Motability.
Ive watched the video posted by Brydo and it states how important it is to have a surge protector fitted to protect charger and car. It also says how important internet connection is.
Have these items been supplied to anyone as part of installation?

It tells you more about the charger.
Mine has been fine, out in all weathers, and it uses a sim for the internet. Do you have good mobile service?
Can’t help with surge protection, I assume the charge installation complies with UK regulations.

Having gone for 5m of cable, I found out the hard way that I should have gone for 8m and have just had to spend money on an extension cable.

Surge Protection –
To meet the requirements of Section 443 in the second amendment of the BS 7671:2018 wiring regulations, such protection must be installed, where overvoltage could:
1. Result in serious injury to, or loss of human life, or
2. Result in failure of a safety service, as defined in part 2, or
3. Result in significant financial loss or data loss.
For all other cases SPDs shall be fitted to protect against transient overvoltages, unless the owner of the installation declines such protection and wishes to accept the risk of damage to both wiring and equipment as acceptable.
Its free so why not but, why is it needed, answers on a postcard for when I get back 😉
March 13, 2025 at 2:46 pm #299346I’ve got an OHME Home Pro, fixed lead, everything was included, works fine.
Recent cars: Hyundai Kona Ultimate EV; Volkswagen Caddy Maxi wheelchair accessible; Skoda Enyaq iV SportLine; Vauxhall Mokka-E; Kia Soul EV, Hyundai Kona (again)
March 13, 2025 at 3:30 pm #299349Hi all, thanks for answers.
Dumfries Dik, where does sim go?
Kezo, great technical answer.
Socket, how’s the Kona? We tested one yesterday and found it a much better ride than Ioniq5, especially over bumps.
Ive found out from OHME, Motability customers get surge protector included, other customers pay extra.

Given no one has been brave enough to answer 😂, I will answer my ow question…
#1 can apply to EV charger installations in some circumstances.
and
SPD’s shall be fitted to protect against transient overvoltages.
March 14, 2025 at 8:45 am #299413Hi, everyone. Had OHME charger fitted back in October 24. Fitting was properly done and easy to arrange. Installers really knew their business and kept ne informed all through the process. Had a few problems with the pre-installation data which OHME ask for. For example, I didn’t know how to take and send a video of proposed site. Indeed, didn’t think a moving image was needed at all. Simple still pic covers everything. OHME were useless in trying to help. Didn’t even know a video was asked for and could not work out how I could send data without video. Installers were brilliant and sorted everything.
Unit has worked perfectly so far (went live in November 24). I believe this is largely due to the fact that I will not use/install the app. If I did try to use mobile to control stuff in car there would be only one outcome: it will go wrong/break down – this always happens when I try to use twatphone for anything other than making calls.
Indeed, from posts on here, it seems most of problems with digital functions occur when owners are using app.

I have Ohme home pro. fitted last autumn. I use the Ohme app to schedule the charging. I use the car’s app for various functions (cabin heating, max battery charge setting). So far since February when received car no problems. Fitting of charger straight forward.
blah, blah, blah
March 14, 2025 at 8:52 pm #299461Sorry for slightly hijacking the thread but didn’t really want to start a new thread for a similar theme…
I have the Ohme Home Pro charger and the App all set up before I had the Ariya. When I took delivery of the car, the dealer added the car to my Nissan Connect App that was already on my phone and replaced my old Qashqai with my new Ariya. I did not set up anything in the Nissan App regarding charging schedules etc.
Here is where things get a bit funny…I plugged the car in last night with the Ohme App set to charge between Midnight and 05:00 and to charge up to 80% but when I got up this morning and looked, the car was almost fully charged (99%).
I have read that the battery should usually be charged upto 80% so how do I achieve this without deleting either App or is that the only way forward?
I am going to email the dealer to ask this question as well.
Help?
March 14, 2025 at 9:35 pm #299462You can set the maximum charge level in the cars system.
I really can’t see the point especially in the Winter when the real world range drops so much, my 85X guess-ometer shows about 220 but in practice that’s about 180-190 miles..
I set mine to 100%, the battery and its systems have built in protection.
One other thing, check your charger is working correctly, the Ohme App went bonkers for mine last night, saying my battery was at 0% and started charging immediately, even though it said it was off peak I don’t think it was (as it was about 8pm when I plugged in).
Several others have reported the same or similar issues, Skoda have said they have never supported charging from other systems like Octopus, Ohme etc. and are blocking their access to the cars API (application programming interface) to stop them using it and force users to use their own interface. Unfortunately Skoda’s (VW’s) software is fairly pants and is prone to errors and mulitple failures of the Skoda (VW) servers which prevents the system working.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
