GaryJune 3, 2021 at 4:45 pm #154477I was looking at these last year, unfortunately the high AP put me off.
I’ve spoken to a couple of people who have them, one with the 2l diesel and one with the petrol hybrid. Both were fairly happy with them and had Kugas previously. The most common description I got was “it’s ok” or “it’s alright”.
Neither were impressed with the quality of the interior compared to the previous versions, some better electronics etc but not as much of a jump in quality as they were expecting from what I gathered. The hybrid owner wasn’t impressed with the range he was getting and is already looking at a full EV instead.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

FiestaRedThanks for the reply, really appreciated. Never even sat in one, let alone had a test drive. Looking on the video above, the music come navi system looks to be an afterthought, a bit stuck on.

GaryFord Sync 3 Infotainment is quite a big part of me moving to a different manufacturer this time.
June 3, 2021 at 10:14 pm #154496We had a look at the new Kuga today. It was a Titanium model, so at the lower end of the range, but neither my wife nor I were particularly impressed. The interior feels very low rent compared to both the BMW X1 we have ordered and the VW Tiguan that we have now. Poor quality plastics compared to its peers and generally cheap looking and very bland interior. There was nothing about it that made us want one. It may be that the higher end models may be a bit better, but I doubt that they feel ‘premium’ in any respect which, for the AP, you can achieve through the Motability scheme with other brands
However, reviews of the car are pretty good. It apparently handles well and is a nice drive (as all Fords tend to be). The PHEV model achieves far better all electric range and overall economy than almost all the competition, including the Volvo XC40 T5 Recharge and Peugeot 3008. However, it’s way behind the Volvo in terms of quality. In summary, if the interior doesn’t deter you, I think it’s worth considering and certainly worth a test drive.

Greg DWe have the Kuga 2l Diesel and I enjoy driving it.
The car is really for my son who is the tallest but sits in the back. Kuga was best for him as the rear passengers gets loads of space. Would have gone with the Volvo XC40 but for this.
June 4, 2021 at 4:21 pm #154525Greg D – I should have added to the positive aspects of the Kuga that the rear leg room was indeed very impressive. I am 6ft 2 and when sat behind the drivers seat (set for me) there was loads of room. Ford have clearly decided to prioritise passenger space over boot space. Given the overall size of the car, the boot was a bit tight for my wife’s wheelchair. It fitted, but only just, whereas there was plenty of room in the boot of the BMW X1 but the passenger compartment feels smaller than the Kuga.
One other thing that I forgot to say was that the sill width between the door and the seat is quite wide in the Kuga and certainly a lot wider than in the X1. This causes a problem for my wife, as she has to reverse on to the side of the seat and pivot around, lifting her legs over the sill. I didn’t notice it, being able bodied, but mention this as it will be a consideration for those with similar disabilities to my wife.

Paul DHave had two Kugas . First was a 2.0 diesel and the latter a 1.5 petrol tit x. Petrol a far better car.
just got a 1.5 petrol Seat Ateca FR DSG .Absolutely cracking motor. Kuga doesn’t even come close to it ?June 6, 2021 at 2:58 pm #154616
FiestaRedJust been informed by my local Ford dealership that there is at least a six month delivery time for the Kuga. Having just gone through a problem with extended deliveries, it’s not something I would like to face again.
Back to the searching.

The sales manager at my local Ford dealership told me a few days ago that almost all Ford cars, not just the Kuga, are starting to be around 6 months lead time due to the semiconductor shortage and some orders placed now could well be into 2022. Less honest dealerships will imply less to get the order and then as time goes by blame Ford for the prolonged delay!
June 7, 2021 at 12:53 am #154638I’ve got a test drive in the 2l diesel tomorrow, sadly not the 190 4×4 auto which is my choice, just the 2l manual, but that’s ok, I have the 180 diesel auto in the smax, so it’d be pretty similar.
Got it for a few hours , then off to try a Rav 4 in the afternoon
Tuesday its an MG5 electric & I’m waiting on a call from the local Kia dealers on a test drive in the Soul EV at some point this week. We went to look at it on Saturday and came away impressed, more room inside than the Kona. Her guide dog fits no problem in the boot (square shape, no sloping tailgate) & wife liked the looks , colour and interior. She said the passenger seat was comfy which is good as its not height adjustable on the First Edition. I dunno about the size, it being our only car & me having had big MPV’s or large estates for the past 20 years!

Dave WI have had the 190 AWD auto in ST Line X for about five weeks now.
The engine is impressive and pulls really well as expected. I am getting around 39-40 mpg but I’m not light footed and that is mainly urban. I did get over 50 on a recent run of 100 miles.
I have had no issues mechanically at all so far.
It is a good drive. being AWD it does not have the sports suspension and the grip and ride are impressive, especially for such a big vehicle.
I had a 2017 model and this seems much bigger, in reality it is slightly bigger.
The kit is very impressive, including heated seats all round, heated wheel and panoramic opening roof.
The room inside is excellent. Overall I am really pleased with it. You can’t compare it to the previous Kuga models.
Yes, the inside is plusher on other makes, such as Peugeot and Volvo but I am more than happy with my choice.

FiestaRedThanks for posting Dave. Good to see you’re pleased with your Kuga.
June 7, 2021 at 11:29 am #154680Now in the middle of my test drive, picked it up at 9am, now 11.15. The car is much better than the old Kuga, pretty quiet, handles well, but also rides well, not too much bump/thump and this is the ST-Line on 18″ wheels with the sports suspension.
The car has done 2000 miles and the trip says 46.5mpg, I reset it, drove up the dual carriage way for 35 miles @indicated 75, then off across country for 40 odd miles & currently showing 55mpg. A comfy place to be, although the seats are smaller than the S-Max’s armchairs. Its pretty quick too, seems quite muscular for a 150hp car, plenty of get-up and go (could just be its 300 odd kgs lighter than the S-Max…lol).
Rear seat room is very generous and the boot looks bigger than the figures suggest, although the boot floor is pretty high (this 2.0 diesel mild hybrid has a weird lump underneath the boot floor – probably the battery).
Sync 3 runs faster than in my S-Max, so the processing gubbins must be quicker and the screen is very sharp. The reversing camera is full HD & gives pin sharp views, best I’ve seen in a car so far.
The car does not seem particularly low rent interior wise, certainly not as grim as some reviews have said, but not overly plush either.
Overall I’d be happy to take one, and, depending on my other test drives may well do so!

FiestaRedThanks for the reply Abercol. When you say “middle of a test drive” is that an extended one, something you’ve arranged with your dealership?
June 7, 2021 at 5:30 pm #154719An arranged longish test drive…I had arranged it to coincide with the S-Max getting an MOT & some recall work done, so had at least 2 hours, the dealers called me when my car was ready to pick up. I got the Kuga at 9am and returned it at 12.30ish. I went home around 11am for a poke around the car/sit in rear etc, have a coffee, go to the loo, then off again at 12.10 on another run back to the dealers to hand it back and collect the S-Max. I then went to Dundee to test drive a Rav4 (had that for about 2 hours or so as well).
Both cars were similar, Rav4 had better seats, but poor infotainment, was noisier (wind noise around the rear) and of course, is a much higher AP. It was also very rapid & fitted with a raft of safety aids and extras that cost pretty much the AP difference. I found the CVT gearbox was hardly intrusive (again all magazine reviews say it drones loudly etc etc), very little noise from the engine really and it did build speed very rapidly when you wanted it to. Thanks to a telematics box Toyota fit to demo cars, they give you a printout on your return. I did 49.8mpg and ran on electric or part electric for 52% of the journey.
Hard to say which was best, both had pros and cons.
