Advice/opinions/help needed regarding whether to cancel MB order and delivery ?

Hi all, I placed an order for the base spec Enyaq 85 SEL on Nov 12th. I had been waiting the past year for my PIP review which was renewed end of Sept.

The AP is £1499 and adaptions £650 (150kg hoist, push/pull, transfer plate, etc).

      I’ve paid for neither yet.

I went for an EV as I can have home charging,  because when I last drove I struggled filling up at petrol stations.

Loading my electric wheelchair was always going to be a bit of a struggle as it means standing on crutches, bending over removing armrests (complete with joystick), and connecting hoist keyhole lifting plates.

But two weeks before Christmas I had a fall and hurt my lower back (I have osteoporosis in my lumbar spine, as other issues). I thought it would get better after a few days but it’s not and causing me a lot of pain and I need to go doctor and have it checked out.

When I was shopping for a MB car it was in the warmer weather, and now it’s the winter I’m not so sure whether I’ve done the right thing. I worry that loading and unloading my wheelchair in winter weather (especially with how my back is at the moment) will be more of a hassle than using the bus? But using public transport has it’s downside too, especially for wheelchair users.

IMPORTANT BIT:  re possible cancelling the MB order?

MB have already installed the EV charging point. I understand if I cancel the order there’s a £250 admin fee, but what about the charger? Will I have to pay a £1000 for that as well?

ALSO: Does anyone know how long the build time is for an Enyaq? If it’s still not due to arrive for a couple of months it should give me time to get my back checked out?

NB: I’m the only named driver on the MB policy, and there is no one who can load or unload my wheelchair for me.

        If I was you

        I would let things roll

And wait and see how things are actually managed rather than guessing how things might be

Having your own transport is a big plus if indeed it can be managed

But at the end of the day the bottom line is like the rest of us its only you who has to decide what is best for you

I agree, that’s good advice. I know I’ll kick myself if I cancel the order and come the better weather be wishing I had the independence of a car.

But if after living with the car for a few months I find out it’s making my life harder for me rather than easier, I’ll phone motability and explain to them. Hopefully they will understand. I’ve known from the outset it’s a bit of gamble as to how I’ll get on with a car, but I unless I try I’ll never know.

I was wondering should I contact motability now and explain to them my worries, and ask them to make a note on my file, as it might make it easier I do have to hand the vehicle back mid-lease? Or better to say nothing and cross that bridge if it comes to it?

          Any thoughts appreciated.

NB: I understand I’m the only one who can decide but I value other people views, I have nobody else to ask, at least no one who has a disability and understands the MB scheme.

If you placed the order in November for a factory order, that’s at least four months from November, adding a short delay for Christmas and new year and that’s the end of March. You could ask your dealer and Motability if they’re willing to hold onto the car for as long as possible. This would buy you some time, might not be much though.
I’d just ring Motability and have the conversation and see what they can do. They’re good at problem solving too.

I would speak with your Doctor / Consultant for advice and take it from there, as its pointless paying for something you aren’t going to make use of.

Yes I will do, I’ll get in touch with my GP this week. Hopefully have an x-ray just in case I have a fracture due to the osteoporosis.
