Absolutely shocking revelations about Ohme and Motability

I’m starting my 4th month with my first EV- what a game changer, even for a cast iron petrol head like me. As many have already stated, the smoothness, refinement and general usability just fits my life perfectly. And because I chose a Kia EV4, I’m getting close to 300 (silent, calming) miles on a charge, even with my enthusiastic and motorway heavy driving. Each charge at home costs about £6. Wow.

One month in, I started getting problems charging- the error message pointed to the cable. Kia were supportive and even lent me a brand new second cable even though they tested everything at the dealership and found all to be working correctly. That also created the same error message. Weirdly, my car charges when I use someone else’s cable!!! So that’s what I’m doing every week, or charging on public chargers, whilst I get get the situation resolved. Attention then moved to the Ohme charger or app.

So, after days and days of online research and diagnostics, I contacted Ohme, armed with lots of information for them. What a complete joke!

You hold for 30 mins then speak to the nicest young ladies who are very sympathetic and understanding, give you a ticket number, then you get a patronising troubleshooting guide by email (“your battery might not be charging because it is already full!”). I went to the trouble of sending screenshots, screen recordings, photos etc. And, literally, you hear nothing back. Nothing. It all goes into a black hole.

So, I decided to contact Motability to raise my concerns about Ohme not responding beyond the default troubleshooting guide by email. Here’s the shocking revelation:

Despite a contract worth millions, 3 Motability staff members have confirmed, they have no leverage to get Ohme out to assess the problem and can only ask nicely if they can help. Think about it- what’s the point of all that buying power?? I’m gobsmacked; they wait on hold for the same 30 min and merely ask Ohme to look into my ticket. That’s to total amount of what Motability can do in case of problems.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for Ohme to respond to my original issued ticket 10 days ago.

So, whilst I will evangelise about the EV experience, I cannot recommend Ohme and more disappointingly, Motability appear toothless in case of difficulty.

      Is it me?
