Hi all hope your all well, I thought Id share what I was Tols today by the motability Grants department.

My lease is coming to an end in begining of May, I Currently have a Ford Puma ST line, with dtivers assist pack and winter Pack ( Heated front seats and Stearing Wheel). I normally extend my lease for 2 years, as Like alot am on limited means and cant work due to disabilities,

I called Motability in November, before they changed the rules in mid December to see if I could extendemy car for 2 years, as I had done less than 4500 miles , I was told by motability at the time that it was no longer possible on for adapted cars and vans. I was told My lease would be coming to an end the start of May 2026 and could order a new car star of February 2026, I explained the low milages and that Like many others would find it almost imposible to save up the Advanced payment on a new lease, unfortunately at the time all They could over me was the number for Motability Grants, for posible means tested help with my new lease.

So for a month if been waiting and praying the first quarter advanced payment prices would be lower than quarter 4 this year (30/ 12/2025). For a new Ford puma like mine with winter pack and advanced drivers assist pack, in Automatic it would currently cost me £1995 ( sound edition includes both packs)

Ive been panacing  on how im going to save at least £2000.00 maybe more depending on the new prices coming on the 1 Jan (q1).  I called motability today spoke to a lovely lady, explained My situstion and she put me through to the grants team with motability ( motability Grants no 0800 500 3186) I told the person in the grants team my situation, that id done under 5000 Miles and was going to find it difficult to come up with money for a new advanced payment on a new lease. I was asked did my current car still suit my needs, which it does, and I was told I could extend the lease for another 2 years, I was told that motability itself cant authorise this only the grants department, as my vechle was low milage and still suited my needs. I asked what help could ai get if I had to change my car, and was tols in my case none as my current car still suits my needs and To call back the Grant team at thecend of January and they will extend it then for me.

Thought id share it on here for others who may be in similar situations, I was panacing and gutted as less than 5000 miles, my car is A1 condition and felt cheated as someon at the actions was going to practacly get a new car hardly used, still on my first set of tyres. Also was panacing about the new added cost and unknown changes coming in starting  1 July 2026 acording to the news online.

If your in a similar situation it be worth giving the grants team a call, as if your needs havent changed and the car is still suitable, it may be better for motability through the grants team to also offer to extend your lease for an extra 2 years, rather than paying out on grants.

Hope this will help others out there struggling financally and worrying on finding money for a new advanced payment. It is means tested, so anyone on benefits and low income and those who cant get credit sould give it a try, good luck all.

Current car Ford Puma ST Line with winter pack and advanced drivers assist pack, 4993 miles, lease started Feb 2023 was ment to end May 2026.

Previous car- Ford Kuga Titanium AWD 2.0 180ps ( still miss that car) I extended the lease to 5 year on my Kuga as I Spent alot on the extras including the Advanced payment, only done just over 20000 miles in 5 years. I would have kept it longer if I could).

Lets hope motability dont change to much in July.

The result is amazing and I hope for you in January the grants team will extend the lease as they advised.

Beyond the personal and it is not to @CUH79 or anyone else,  why to have Motability car for three years if a person doesn’t drive it at all?

If one doesn’t require any adaptation like left food accelerator or wheelchair related,  with such a low mileage I would assume the likes of Enterprise Rent a Car are much better option?

Even for me they would install hand control and pick me from home in their car to collect for a weekend and then drop me off at home.  All in all I think it used to cost some £40 for a weekend back in 2010ish…

With £2,000 deposit and £4,067pa advanced mobility PIP it costs £3 per mile for the likes of @CUH79.

Well done glad you managed a result, I would imagine your very low mileage helped.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
