Another at 61 who left the scheme but still maintains active interest. just dont post nearly as often Now been out for 7 months and loving my plug in awd hybrid and making most of it, whilst still allowed to drive. Camper for weekends away and take the caravan for longer trips.

Surely the depreciation hit has already happened on your 220d? I would have thought it would be as cheap as chips to run from now on. However, if it’s not suitable I guess there’s no point in keeping it.
Don’t forget that if you go down the JLR route you need to buy two of them, so that you are still mobile when one of them is in the garage for repairs 😂

Oh yeh, its worth now about £15k tops retailing around £19k now for standard M Sport. Its over 3k of extra’s inc live cockpit pro and importantlt the iDrive controller which is missing on newer models. Cost £36,500 for the standard M Sport and I got it ex demo, when a few months old.
@BigDave @kezo Further to the discussion earlier in this thread, I am very pleased (and extremely relieved) to report that we now have a new ‘Certificate of Exemption’ for the VED on the new private car.
I spent another 90 minutes on the phone to the DWP yesterday, being escalated through 3 different people (I don’t take no for an answer easily 😂) and, finally, they agreed to send a new certificate, even though they maintain that their system says that they can’t whilst we are still in possession of the Motability car 🙄. They posted it 1st Class and it has arrived today!
This now means that the dealer can register the car as VED free from the day of first registration. This is a huge relief as without it I was potentially looking at having to cash in another £5,690 of investments to pay the first year VED, and then having the hassle of changing the taxation class afterwards and hoping that DVLA would refund the full amount, but running the risk of losing £475 if they only refund full months.
Surprisingly, the VAT exemption is dead easy in comparison, with just a simple 2 page self declaration form that doesn’t even require supporting evidence (although the dealer is liable for paying the VAT if it is subsequently found that they haven’t ensured that the disabled person is a full time wheelchair user and that car has a permanent and substantial adaptation).
Just waiting now to find out if the car is still at the port in the USA, on the high seas, or has arrived in the U.K!

I’m not sure the DWP insistence on certificate rules is correct, given how many are in possession of one and pay VED on scheme vehicle. None of that matters now anyway!

@kezo I agree that what they were telling me must be incorrect, but every person that I spoke to at DWP quoted the same thing. As you say (and as I told them) that makes no sense. Anyhow, I understand from @BigDave that this is a ‘one time problem’ when you first leave Motability. I have taken a few copies of the certificate and they are indistinguishable from the original, so I’m covered for future cars now so that I don’t have the stress next time.
The car has made it across the Atlantic and is currently on the ship in Bremerhaven in Germany, where I guess that U.S. built BMWs destined for mainland Europe are offloaded, prior to European built BMWs destined for the U.K. being loaded to join the U.S. built ones that are also U.K. bound. The ship is due to arrive into Southampton in the early hours of Monday so it looks as though me taking delivery week commencing 22nd June is still looking hopeful 🤞
Next step is to call Motability’s insurers tomorrow to request my driver record ready for insuring it!

Just phoned them. They are saying that it can take up to 10 working days, even via email 🙄 Unlike the VED Certificate of Exemption, I’m not worried though as most insurers don’t even ask to see it. I guess they look into it in more detail should you make a claim!
As I flagged on here some time ago, they stated again that you can only request proof of driver claims record once per policy year, so it’s important for people not to request one until their new private car is imminent, or it could be out of date by the time you need to use it!
@kezo @BigDave I received the driver record from Direct Line Motability today (via email), so I now have the full house! I’m relieved that it didn’t take too long as they told me that they were processing “thousands” of requests from people leaving the scheme!
Good timing as my new car arrived by ship into Southampton over the weekend and the sales person called this afternoon to say that it’s now due to arrive to the dealership by Friday latest. I’ve booked the hoist installer for next Wednesday morning and, all being well, I will take delivery on the afternoon of Wednesday 24th. I’ve taken out the insurance policy from that date 🤞
