£5 Of Petrol Didn’t Even Register

The car is going back tomorrow, there was 80 miles range and 2 bars on the fuel indicator. We don’t  want to be the people who drive the car to the dealer on fumes so I thought I’ll put £5 in and they’ll be 130 miles of range for the new owner or for the person delivering it to a new dealer. It’s a 1L mild hybrid that can average around 50mpg. The £5 didn’t even register, car range is still 80 and it still only has 2 bars on the fuel indicator. I think maybe I was too tight and should’ve put £10 in. 😂

I had a similar thing with a courtesy car whilst mine was being serviced. I was considering adding more but as I drove the range actually increased gradually.

Many charge you £20 on collection so £5 was £4 to much imo

That’s an interesting point Ele. Maybe people could tell us how much fuel they leave in their cars when handing them back. Was I being tight or generous leaving 130 miles of fuel.

Leave as little as possible as I have had to pay £20 for petrol when collecting my last 3 cars.

when we collected our Dacia Sandero Stepway 2 days ago it came with a full tank

we left our old Suzuki swift with a quarter of a tank

It’s absolutely a personal choice, you can send it back on fumes as long as it gets there.

Personally I won’t return a car with the fuel light on, but that’s about my limit. Think the Tiguan I just returned had about 80 miles on the range, light comes on between 50 and 60 on that car.

Why not just drain it with a hose round the corner and push it in.
