3p per mile ev tax

Now it’s been officially announced that if you have an ev you will be charged 3p per mile and if you have a PHEV it will be 1.5p.

ive searched everywhere but there is no details of how they will collect this tax and will motability customers have to pay it?

will it be we’ll have to take our cars to the dealer every year and then pay the extra tax on the miles we’ve done? I just hate the fact things are announced with no details of how it will actually work!

      Dows anyone know?

Also if the government wants a level play field why don’t they have a standard price for off peak electric. Here in Northern Ireland our off peak is 18p and we can’t get octopus energy due to the way our electricity is supplied so we are already paying more than mainland ev drivers.

At 6 pence PAYG Tarif  based on charging off peak at home the difference would drop over a 3 year lease to £1164.98 or £29.87 month, given the high AP EV price compared to hybrid it is worth the expense and hassle, if you are not on an off peak tariff or force to used public chargers, there is just no point in going down the EV route for mobility customers.

Plus I can see Mobility Operation as a cost saving to end the free EV chargers.

Sometimes we only consider cost & ignore value, if you’re lucky enough that you can afford it, which I can.

The value to me of EV ownership.
          1. Tailpipe = carbon neutral

          2. Regenerative breaking = safer driving

          3. no longer filling up at non accessible filling stations.

          4. Reliability.

          5. New tech that allows things like pre heating (a godsend in winter for wheelchair users who can’t scrape windows).

          6. smoother driving, instant torque, smooth acceleration. Don’t miss clunky diesels and overtaxed automatic gearboxes.

On top of this are all the benefits that offer peace of mind thru Motability. Also I’m happy to pay my way to support UK infrastructure, and happy to contribute more for those who can’t. I hope when retired & money is tighter i can still afford to contribute.

          blah, blah, blah

Apparent the Government (Dan Tomlinson) has decided vehicles used by disable person or passenger will be exempt from the charge.

            Also and don’t laugh.

Mobility scooter and electric wheelchairs, not sure how they were going to police that one ?

I read that article, to say it was poorly written is an understatement.  They stated at the end the current VED exemptions including disabled vehicles but weren’t clearly stating whether that meant an exemption from the 3ppm or not.   There’s a possibility that I didn’t read it correctly (it’s hard when there’s so many ads) and it seems logical that if it’s being branded as an additional VED, we’ll be exempt but if it’s a replacement for excise duties that are inflicted upon fossil fuels, it shouldn’t be exempted in the same way disabled people don’t get a 50% refund on their petrol costs.

I have huge difficulty reading with my brain injury, the wife usually helps me, writing is a bit hit and miss helped with the computer software, sometimes after posting I read it back it doesn’t make sense on the rare occasion it does.

I am ok on this site we are all to a degree in the same boat, I don’t do any social media sites like Facebook etc can you imagine the abuse, I had enough on the Mitsubishi site and Swift owners club.
