I’m sure people here will come along and give advice, one thing I’ll point out is driving lessons, I’m pretty sure Motability will help your daughter learn to drive. I think they’ll pay for 40 lessons if you order a car.
May 23, 2026 at 12:09 pm #361396If your daughter will be driving the car, she will be limited to upto 120bhp (140bhp for electric) and an insurance group of upto group 16 (21 for electric) however, if she wont be driving and your the driver, there are no limits.
Private leasing (PCH) might be another option and in many cases can work out cheaper than Motability depending on the car. Most leasing companies allow you to add maintainence tyre packages for an extra monthly premium of c20-30 quid, if like the idea for worry free motoring.
For reference purposes, the majority of Motability vehicles are total allowance of the mobility component of PIP. which works out this tax year at £346.6 month or just under £12,500 for a tree year lease (sacrified benefit), along with any Advance Payment on the vehicle.
Depending on your daughters PIP award length, the option might be to buy a car instead.
May 23, 2026 at 2:24 pm #361399If its yur daughters first car, the scheme insurance scheme lets your daughter accumlate ncb and experience.
But just go on the motability website and apply, you will find out jf you qualify or not.
You dont have to do anything and costs you nothing, becoming a member.

The only problem with that is the current insurance cost for young, first time drivers could be quite high. In the end, it might not work out that much better.

DLM don’t accumulate NCB for Motability drivers. Yes, you can a previous claims history letter. It’s down to other insurance companies whether they accept that and give you the corresponding discount (outside of Motability).
If your daughter is a learner, then it’s easier to get the driving lessons via Motability with the car. She could use the car to learn in, provided that there’s a fully qualified driver over 21 on the Motability insurance, and present in the car.
If she can already drive, then it’s a hassle free way of getting a car and drive. Especially, now as they’ve paused the Smart Drive crap. If you do go down this route, then it’s better to order the car before July, as you should be covered by the old (current pre-July) T&Cs.
Good luck to her, whatever, she decides.

I’m very correct, and my comment is perfectly accurate.
Will I get a ‘no claims’ bonus at the end of my lease? | Motability SchemeI have ASD and thus have difficulty with social and understanding information, written and verbal. I process information in logical blocks, before I reply. Sometimes I'm right and sometimes I'm wrong.

Who are you going to trust?
A note on Motabilities webpage, or the Insurance company itself?
