Reply To: DfT “seriously considering” instant fines for drivers who leave engines idling

    Two points:

    1) As in most new cars the engine automatically turns off when I stop in traffic queues, at lights etc. – a common feature and a Good Idea (imo) BUT if I so much as touch the steering wheel or fidget in my seat to get comfy the engine starts again, and then I’d have to deliberately turn off the engine with the key and then start the car again with the key when it’s time to pull away.

    2) When I go out with the DH we often park in a Car Park while he ventures off by himself (e.g. getting his hair cut or nipping into the Supermarket) while I wait in the car.  If it’s cold (and this is Britain so that’s about 80% of the time) I have to turn the engine on to run the heating.  Would I be liable for a Fine by simply trying to stay warm in my own car?
