And that’s exactly the reason why we’re going towards batteries; it’s the path of least resistance (and cost)…for now. And therein lies the problem, it’s just too short sighted. There is a lack of proper foresight and bravery which is required. Now is the time for a proper rethink of our transport strategies and solutions and the battery and charging of is only a half-step solution and all we’re doing is moving the problem a little further into the future and let’s not even get into the debate of how much the power grid infrastructure is going to cost to repair when parts of it start to fail in 25-50 years time. It’ll be ‘Hi-Speed Internet’ all over again, all we’ll be doing is incremental repairs/replacements/refurbs costing £billions upon £billions instead of getting it right the first time.
tl;dr: We need more radical solutions and ideas otherwise we, as humans, will still be bumbling about with this in 50 years time.
